question about adding a card to ios for use in safari

Hi all,
I found out recently that in settings you can save card information for use in safari and have it auto fill on websites for you.
I have spent ages trying to get this to work without success, there is an option that lets you scan it with the camera but I can't get this to work at all,
so is this process VoiceOver accessible, if so maybe someone could post a podcast demonstrating how this works with tips on using the camera to capture the information.
When capturing card information does the card have to be held in portrait or landscape mode? and also which side is all the information printed on,
is it the side with the raised ridges in a pattern or the other fairly flat side?
I know you can enter card information manually but I would like to learn to use the camera to capture it for ease of entry.
I did wonder if I was using the wrong camera as I have been waving my card under the back facing camera I tried the front but no joy either, I am using a 6 plus on ios 8.1.2.
I am not quite sure why I am having trouble as I have improved my camera use since getting the knfb reader.
