Query about keyboard double tap

Using VO normally, you have to double tap on the keyobard to input the key that has been selected. I have a weird problem where VO works normally and a double tap is required to open an app and use buttons as per normal. But when using the keyboard when moving over the character it is typed in immediately when my finger is removed from the screen. No double tap is needed. I am wanting to revert the phone back to the double tap method of keyboard input.
