As of one of the recent YouTube app updates, composing and editing comments underneath videos has become partially inaccessible. You are able to type as normal and you can use the rotor commands to move by character or word, but if you want to touch the text entry field to have voiceover read out everything you’ve typed so far, it’s no longer recognized. You will just hear a blank button where the text field should be. This occurs in both new comments and replies to existing comments, but interestingly this only occurs when you reach the comment section by clicking on it from underneath a video. If you follow a YouTube notification about a comment, it takes you to a different screen that doesn’t include the video, and editing in this area seems to still be fully accessible. I hope this made sense. I have reported this issue to Google as I don’t believe it’s a voiceover issue
Comments
I had this issue today.
Hi,
I had this issue today.
I was composing a comment on a video, & made a spelling typo.
I had to get sighted assistance & disable voiceover so they could fix it.
How did you report the issue to Google? I'm not familiar with the process on how to do that.
I am having the same issue, but found a work-around
There is a simple solution to this. instead using the swiping jester hover your finger to find the comment section, you are good to go.
Sending feedback to Google
In the upper right hand corner of the YouTube app you should hear voiceover announce an icon that says more info. Double tap this and one of the options will be help and feedback. When that screen opens, scroll to the bottom, flick around a bit and you should find a Feedback button. Hope this helps
Question for Roman about the workaround
Hi Roman,
I’m not sure I understand the workaround. Are you talking about accessing the comments section or a particular comment? If you could give us the complete steps for the work around that would be awesome. Thanks!
With every update Google…
With every update Google releases, it seems YouTube just keeps getting worse. I miss the old layout. With every issue that is patched, a new one is bound to take its place. I've been pondering whether I should just use the web app instead of the mobile version. Even Android's YouTube app is way past iOS's league when it comes to accessibility.
