Ok guys does anyone know where VoiceOver focus should be when you first make a call? For ages now when I make a call VO either goes direct to the status bar which is most of the time or sometimes and this maybe part of the status bar not sure it keeps telling me every few seconds how long I've been on the call. Extremely annoying as I have to turn speech off every call and I'm guessing that VO should focus somewhere that won't interfere with anything which simply doesn't happen.

Touch screen
If you touch the screen focus will vanish from hearing the time you are in the phone, it is a bug. It happens once in a blue moon to me. Long live cats.
This is just a call screen, not a bug
I believe this is intended behavior. It’s just the cold screen VoiceOver is focusing on. But yes, you can touch the screen and move away from that. Yes it’s sort of annoying but I’m pretty sure it’s intended behavior. I mean, I could be wrong, but I’ve never not seen the phone do that. Are you on the latest iOS 26.3? Hope this helps.

As others have said, it's a bug. The call time display is meant to be a convenience, but often times, VoiceOver focus will jump on that, even if your phone is locked, something can wake it up, say a notification such as a text coming in or something. Then suddenly VO focus jumps to that stupid call time, and announces every second. Frustrating as all get out. Like you, I typically mute VoiceOver during a phone call. Other times, when I'm actually in a call, VO likes to jump to the Call recording button.
Also, has anyone else noticed how hard it is to get to your home screen, when you're in the middle of a phone call. Tried doing your home gesture three or four times consecutively, just to get that feature to work. 🙄
I missed the old call screen before all of these new features, say back during iOS 14 or maybe 15?

What league claims is true but a quick single swipe to the right alleviates the issue! Big babies here man! Wanna know something that's really annoying? dictating responses to posts on Applevis results in voiceover not reading back my dictated text! Now that's a bug! Lol!
