pause image description

image description is generally great, but not in all situations, camera is an example. one can't even pause or turn it off temporarily. i went to settings > accessibility > voiceover > voiceover recognition > image description and deselected camera from the app list, and it still on.

trying to concentrate to take a good picture and have voiceover saying something like "woodwork, drawing, cabinet, sofa, glassware, coffee table" continuously proves to be very distracting.

if you are in the same boat, have you found a way to temporarily pause it?

You can toggle speaking on/off with a three finger double tap. That might help. then use the side buttons to take a photo or video.

i thought about that, but i also need to description to help me verify what is in the frame. the problem is vo will keep repeat things even the camera is completely still. so if i put the phone on a tripod, lock the focus, vo will repeat the same thing in an infinite loop. really, who design software like this?

magnifier has scene description function similar to the camera app, and it only triggered when one touches the viewfinder, that's good programing.

after some experiment, here is the solution. description will pause if vo focus is not left on the viewfinder, i.e., tap the shutter button to bring vo focus there will stop the description.

the best way is to lock the focus after what you want is in the frame so it won't try to focus on something else, then you can decide what to do next.
