What’s your thought? The somewhat celebrated “live recognition“ feature in iOS 18 it’s just so erratic and outdated. I’m finding it’s pretty much the same feature and performance level as the live recognition that has been around in the Camera app for quite a while now. All Apple did was just make a app out of the same older technology.
Erratic behave: technology on iOS 18 and previous iOS version has always been so erratic. For example if I just am standing in my office with a whiteboard and grey cubicle walls behind me and I am wearing a black T-shirt, it goes all over the place saying window door and other things before it settles in about 10 seconds and then also depending on the particular instance it can say things like “a man posing for a photo“, or “wearing black shirt“. Just very erratic specially if I’m rotating very slowly the camera around which is the purpose of life recognition.
Outdated technology: and the technology is really dumb, given many of us are familiar with the depth and detail of response that AI image description tools have been giving us now for more than a year. It will just say black keyboard on a wooden surface with no more detail, or white paper on the wall without reading any text on that paper even though the text I was aiming at was an 8 1/2 x 11 sign in 20 font and less than 20 characters.
Usefulness: the only thing I found it useful for is that now I use a combination of life recognition app ND “quick capture“ button on AIRA access AI to know where I am aiming and then press the quick capture button instead of going to the longer more tedious involving more swipes and taps “detailed capture“.
