onscreen keyboard has moved and don't know why...?

Okay, I am using an ipod touch 5th gen with the IOS 6.1.3 version because I'd rather wait a while for Apple to try to fix its bugs before upgrading mysoftware.
Anyway, the onscreen touch keyboard was originally set up like the keyboard on a regular computer but contained in the bottom part of the screen when ipod was held vertically *long side up and down*.
Now for some odd reason the keyboard has moved and is now running down the left edge *long side* and I've not changed any settings or done the update of the IOS 7.
Does anyone know why this would happen and if there is a way to set it back to the way it was?

It's just a bit awkward to be using the ipod up and down and then have to suddenly flip it on its side to now use the keyboard for typing.

Two things I can think of that you can try are 1) restart the device. Or. 2) if you are used to typing in portrait mode, you should be able to lock the device into portrait mode. I do not have an actual iPod, but I assume that the setting is the same as on the iPhone. I don't know how much, if any, help this will be, but good luck.

Have you tried putting the phone in to rotation lock?
