Hi! Does anyone know how to delete notifications of a new friend on Facebook from Messenger?
You know, the ones where it gives you the person's name and you are now connected on Messenger. Only buttons I see are wave, and other buttons related to sending them a message. But no delete button.
Is there an accessible way to do this in Messenger? If not, is there another way to do this? Any help is appreciated!

Hi Dawn,

It doesn’t look like there is an accessible way to do this. If you go to the People tab and then click on the name of the person, you can only select options to block them. I don’t think this deletes them entirely from messenger.

Maybe we should contact Facebook accessibility about this?

I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

It used to work before. When you used to add a new friend on Facebook, when you opened Messenger, you would have that same item as you described, but it would appear as a regular converrsation. So if you focused on it and, while on the Actions item on the rotor, you could easily swipe up or down until you heard the delete option.

Since a recent update, this doesn't work anymore. It almost seems as though it no longer appears as a conversation, so we can no longer simply delete it.

I would suggest contacting Facebook and letting them know of this. Although the Facebook and Messenger apps are fairly accessible, Facebook continually updates the apps and seem to continue breaking things.

I've tried everything I could think of, and nothing worked. I had to log on using my Laptop and the mobile site and delete it that way. It was driving me insane.

Kris, you are right! That's exactly what I use to be able to do!! And now, it seems Facebook has broken this feature too! And I really don't want to block them, I just want to delete the nojification from Meisenger! lol

Hi Dawn,

Ok, I think I will contact FB accessibility about this.

If others do the same, maybe they will fix this issue.

I think I've found a work-around for this. When you encounter the message that can't be deleted, there's also an option to let you wave at the person. I tried it last night, just out of curiosity. When I did that, the message turned back into a conversation that could be deleted. Kind of annoying that you have to wave at someone first, but for now, that seems to be the only way.

Thank you Brooke! I'll have to try that! Needless to say, I can't do it for all requests, as some could be from hackers. But, I'll definetely be doing this! Also, I think I'm going to follow in Kris's footsteps, and contact Fb. Accessibility. I don't know, but maybe the more people that contact them, the more likely the issue will be fixed. And it may get fixed quicker too!
