Navigon for iOS pedestrian mode

I've found Navigon on my iPhone an extremely useful pedestrian navigation tool with one exception. When I start a pedestrian navigation, the app either gives me no information on which way initially to head or the screen rotates around unhelpfully. I've occasionally gone quite a long way in the wrong direction before suspecting my error. I'm sure that I must be missing something obvious. Once I've got the initial direction right then I usually get where I intended. Any happy Navigon pedestrian users who can assist, please?

I'm not sure what you mean by "the screen rotates". Maybe you have some eesight, and I have none. Anyway, when you first start walking, try touching just above the home button. It will tell you what street you are on. Also, the direction in which to head may not have been spoken at the beginning. To repeat the last instruction, I'm thinking that you can shake your device to have it repeated. Or you can flick right or left, I don't recall which. Another option is to use the built-in GPS app in conjunction with Siri. These are just thoughts off the top of my head, because I haven't used Navigon in quite some time, even though it is a good app.

Thanks Charles. Yes, I do have some useful sight and can see the screen acceptably using twelve times magnifying spectacles. When I do this, I was hoping that the map and arrow pointer would indicate the direction I was heading in so that I could ensure I headed off in the right direction along the street I was on. Sometimes, the arrow does show my orientation correctly, but then the on screen map rotates and I'm left confused. More often than not, I can't find a way to get the visual display to tell me which way to face. Your suggestion may work for me. I'll try it tomorrow - it's late now. Tapping to repeat the last spoken instruction will tell me if the distance to my next turn is increasing or decreasing as I walk.
Also, I'd considered Siri with the built in navigation but, sadly, around many places in the UK there just isn't good en ough cellular network connection to make this practical. One day soon, perhaps!
