Hi all,
Happy new year! I hope this year is a good one for you all.
I would like to share my experience trying Door detection and people detection in iOS 16.
As of yesterday, I recently got a chance to play with my cousins iPhone 13 Pro Max. I was able to put both Door Detection and People Detection in iOS 16 through its paces.
Throughout my experience trying out the features, Voiceover was able to tell me how far or close the person/door is.
It was able to detect doors around the house, for example, the bathroom door, and even my sisters door. It was also able to detect my mom, as well as other family members that were near by.
This, to me, was absolutely incredible and overwhelming.
when I upgrade to an iPhone 14 pro this year, I'll be able to use the features not only while at home, but out doors as well.
A big thanks goes to the accessibility team at apple for including this feature on all pro devices, which, in the future, can make navigating difficult environments more accessible.

It's seriously impressive
I tried it out a few months ago. It works. It works incredibly well. There are only two problems that keep me from using it. First off, it murders my battery. Second, it's not very convenient to pull my phone out and juggle it along with my cane and a water bottle or what have you. These are two problems that I hope Apple Glasses will solve, assuming it ever releases. If they can get over those two hurdles, it will become a seriously valuable accessibility tool that I will keep in my belt.
Credit where credit's due. Good job, Apple. Seriously good job.
These sound like amazing features
This sounds like an amazing feature. Is it available on older IPhones? or just the newer ones?
available on pro or pro maxes only
It is available on the 13 pro or pro max and above I believe
I believe Door Detection and…
I believe Door Detection and People Detection are also available on the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max.
You have to have Lidar
Any phone with Lidar will work which for now is only in the pro models.
Sign detection
For those who have tried it outside: does it tell you if there is a sign on the door? For me, the problem is not just finding the door but knowing whether it's the right door in the first place :)
