Moving thankfully back to iOS, but there's a problem

So yesterday, after an enforced absence, I was able to acquire an iPhone 13. Now fully into the Apple ecosystem and, most importantly, away from Talkback and Android's less than stellar accessibility. But I'm having a problem with the App Store. When it comes time to enable or disable personal advertising, the buttons to enable or disable the setting are grayed out. Nothing I do seems to work. I tried signing out and back in, restarting the phone, etc. Im stumped.

Hello I had the same problem on my iPhone SE 2020. You can’t do anything there. You need the help of a cited person.

*administers several spanks* Thought it might just be because I'm on iOS 17.1, or that I don't have a sim yet. We shouldn't need sighted assistance for something as simple as turning on or off App Store ads.

I know I know. It never works but it’s still worth a go. There’s one single thing Screen recognition has done successfully for me but there would have been no other way of hitting the button without it so it’s always worth a try. Miracles do happen. Sometimes. Ok, well once.

I tried Screen recognition. Using screen recognition, the button was no longer grayed out. But still refused to do anything. Sad. I've had screen recognition work for me rather ore often than once, but this is still one of of those many times when It just doesn't work.

I'm sure you've done these but humor me. First, double tap and hold? Double tap and hold, swiping left. Double tap and hold but press down, so you feel extra biofeedback. If none of these work, turn off speech completely after you hover your finger over the button you want to press. either touch it, or play around swiping. Hope some of this might work.

I don't know what happened. Honestly. I tried screen recognition again. I tried turning off VoiceOver. Turned it back on and tried long pressing. In all that, something must have worked, because now I have access to the App Store. Just need to figure out what the restrictions are that stop me from opening some Apple apps like News now.

To avoid issues with ads check privacy settings and on setting check what you can change regarding this on the app store.

To each his own,\. The minor hiccups with Apple are more than compensated for by its overall accessibility. I've just come from Android, and plan to stay away as long as humanly possible. Devoted Android fans are welcome to enjoy their devices; I'm just not a fan. IMHO comparing Talkback to VoiceOver is like comparing a BMW to the family Beetle.

I'd forgotten how many regional restrictions apply to the Bahamas in the Apple Store. A change of region fixed that. Now just have to get a sim and I'lll be good to go.
