Hello everyone,
I’m the developer of Memora, an iPhone app I created to make large photo and video libraries easier to find, understand, and manage—especially for VoiceOver users.
Apple Photos is a powerful application, but navigating a large library can sometimes be difficult. For example, searching for a word such as “ID” may return many results without making it immediately clear which item is relevant. Finding a specific date, filtering content, understanding search results, opening a video, or selecting the correct item for sharing or deletion can also take more effort than expected.
Memora does not replace Apple Photos. It does not copy your photos or videos into a separate archive, and it does not upload your media to another service. Instead, it provides an alternative interface for viewing and managing the original items in your Apple Photos library. Actions performed in Memora apply to those original items.
With Memora, you can:
- Browse photos, videos, and screenshots using day and month headings.
- Filter your library by photos, videos, screenshots, and favorites.
- Search, sort, select multiple items, share, favorite, label, rename, or delete content.
- Create your own labels and use them to organize and find items later.
- Apply labels, names, sharing actions, or deletion to multiple items at once.
- Jump directly to a particular date or date range.
- Play videos inside the app, either with sound or muted.
- Move through your library with clearer item counts, dates, headings, and action points.
One of Memora’s main features is text search inside screenshots. When you first use the app, it begins indexing your library on the device. Depending on the size of your collection, this initial process may take some time. After indexing is complete, you can search for words that appear inside screenshots, such as “identity,” “address,” or “application,” and then inspect or copy the recognized text.
Memora also aims to make text inside images more accessible with VoiceOver. When an image contains readable text, VoiceOver can present that text as you move through the image, without requiring you to begin a separate OCR process each time.
You can also create your own names and labels for photos, videos, and screenshots. This can be useful for organizing documents, receipts, travel information, family memories, medical records, or any other content that is important to you.
Privacy is also important to me. Memora does not require an account, does not contain advertising or analytics, and performs text recognition and content analysis on the device. Your photos and videos remain in your Apple Photos library.
I developed and use Memora on an iPhone running iOS 26. The App Store listing currently supports iOS 18 and later. I would especially appreciate feedback from VoiceOver users about navigation, headings, labels, focus order, filtering, bulk actions, text recognition, video playback, sharing, and deletion workflows.

ooh, renaming
Hi,
It's about time there was something like this, I have tons of photos, though I'm totally blind, it will be nice to organize them, actually name them, lol. It's silly you can't name photos in the native photo app, a voiceover user can't, other than putting a voiceover label on it...

I completely understand how frustrating it can be that the native Photos app does not provide VoiceOver users with a simple way to give meaningful names to individual photos. I hope Memora makes that part of managing your library easier.

Auto renaming or adding description
Currently I managed my photos visually, which wrecks my eyes. I would love a way to auto rename them or add a description, potentially AI would have to do this. And obviously initially a big job to trundle through your library doing this. Is there anything on the roadmap that could or would do something like this?

Hey! Thank you for the ability to rename photos, it sounds really basic but it is what it is :)
Even the ability to put descriptions for the blind in photos on the latest version of iOS 26 is getting broken, in my experience (will let you know if you're interested to hear).
I’d like to know the difference between your free version and the version with in-app purchases?

Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion. The upcoming 1.1 update adds an on-demand image description feature.
Memora uses Apple’s on-device Vision framework to create a short, conservative description based on information it can identify reliably, such as recognised objects or scenes and the number of people in the image. It does not process the entire library automatically in the background, and it will not invent a description when the result is uncertain.
One of the most useful parts is that both kinds of descriptions become part of Memora’s built-in description system. Whether the text was generated on the device or brought in from another app such as Be My Eyes, it can be saved directly to the item, edited, replaced or removed later, and included in search. When browsing the library with VoiceOver, the saved description can also be spoken along with the item, so you can hear it quickly without opening another app again.
The description is reviewed before it is saved, and you can replace it with your own text or paste a richer description from another app.
For videos, Memora describes the cover frame rather than the entire video, and the saved text clearly says that it refers to a single frame. No photos are sent to an external AI service.
Automatic renaming is not part of this update, but user-defined names and the new built-in description system are separate tools that can make organising a large library much easier. The update is currently under App Review, so it is not available on the App Store yet.

Thank you for asking. There is no separate paid or Pro version of Memora. The app is completely free, and all features are available to everyone, including the VoiceOver-focused features, OCR, search, photo naming, notes, descriptions, and bulk actions.
The in-app purchases are optional consumable support purchases in three different amounts. They do not unlock features, remove a paywall, add a subscription, or provide any special functionality. They are simply a way to thank and support the ongoing development of Memora. You can use the full app without making any purchase.
The upcoming 1.1 update also includes several improvements around image descriptions. Memora can create a short description on the device, and descriptions generated by Memora or brought in from another app can be saved as the item’s built-in description. They can then be edited, replaced, removed, searched, and spoken with the item while browsing the library with VoiceOver. For videos, the cover frame is described and the saved text identifies it as a single frame. No photos are sent to an external AI service.
The update is currently under App Review, so it is not available on the App Store yet.
Also, I’d be very interested to hear more about the issue you’re experiencing with image descriptions in the latest version of iOS 26.

Thanks for telling us about Memora. I'm excited to see where it goes.
One small thing I've noticed so far: for me, Share and Add to Favorites each appear twice in the VoiceOver rotor's action menu.

One bigger thing
Okay so just downloaded the app and Ben adding some tags to some photos, problem is every time I add a tag and return to the Photos list focused jumps back to Settings top left, not the photo I've just been editing on. This is a bit of a problem when trying to troll through a lot of pics, but thanks for this app will persevere
