Hello. I just discovered that now VoiceOver reads the text in Netflix. This has been quite useful in my spanish movies because I am not very good at spanish. I understand a lot but since I have subtitles in swedish or english I can actually hear what is going on. I believe that is OCR but can also be a feature in Netflix. It is very useful at least.

I was playing with this the other day and I definitely would agree.

now I wonder if someone will realise this could be used for description.

I can see many benefits for what I'm tentively calling subtitle description.

Think about it, you're watching something with your family, using airplay on your phone or tablet, you can quietly listen to the description without annoying anyone.

Now most people would not like a synthesized voice describing what's on screen, but with synthesizers sounding more human every day, there really isn't any need to complain.

Another benefit would be content would be available described much sooner, not to mention cheaper.

We still have books in many formats, this would be an alternative.

I think if something like this were to take off, I would find myself using it instead of audio description.

I think I might have a little chat with netflix and see what they think.

They might not agree, seeing as iOS appears to be the only platform that can do this at present.

Hi, it’s very useful to me that, subtitles in Hebrew doesn’t reade, and I’m feeling very disappointing that Netflix doesn’t support this language. VoiceOver extremely useful because of that feeling it’s very improving, but in hebrew Subtitles does not work. In iTunes mooveis it works.
