Losing my Wi-Fi Connection

Hello,

I've been noticing something on my iPad Mini 2 that I thought I would ask you all in the hopes that others are also experiencing this issue.

I have an iPad Mini 2 running the latest iOS (10.2) connecting to an Apple Airport Extreme (AC) and ever since updating to iOS 10, I find that once or twice a week, my iPad loses my Wi-Fi connection. It's like it is being deleted on its own and I am starting to wonder what exactly is going on. I've reset my network settings but so far, it is still occurring. I have updated to iOS 10.2 in the hopes that perhaps this update may resolve my problem.

Has anyone else have this happen to them? I also have an iPhone 6 Plus and a Apple TV 4 and none of them have had this issue, only my iPad Mini 2. It's kind of frustrating when streaming content and then all of a sudden, it stops and when I check, it's because my Wi-Fi connection is gone and I have to go back to the Wi-Fi settings and add it all over again.

I do have an idea or two on what I could try to resolve it, short of formatting the device and starting from scratch (which I don't want to do!), but I am hoping that perhaps someone out there might have a better solution.

Would appreciate some assistance, if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!

Hello,
I had this issue with an iPad mini 1. Maybe you have already tried this. Instead of choosing your wifi from the provided list, go into "other", and enter your wifi login/password manually. This has helped me and others in the past. My iPad stopped dropping the connection after doing this. Of course, all situations are different and this may not help.

Hello,

Since your other devices work fine, it’s not a router issue but device specific.

Try the above suggestion. IF that doesn’t work, try setting the IP on your device to static. In other words, give it a specific IP address.

I know you said you already reset network settings, but if all else fails, before doing a factory restore, try reset all settings. You might have to do it twice to ensure all the settings are wiped out. It’s not as drastic as factory restore but you will still need to enter your preferences.

HTH and good luck.

Maybe you're being dropped because of the signal strength. Does it do it in cehtain parts of the house? In mine, we have dead zones so this may be the issue.

I understand you not wanting to wipe your hard drive on your ipad, as I've been faced with having to do that.

Also, how old is your router? It may be wearing out. If it's getting worn out, you can test it by unplugging it then plug it back in. Leave it unplugged for about 10-15 2nds. If it happens again, then I'm sorry to say, that, unfortunately you'll need t invest in a knew router.

The weather could have something to do with it too. In which case, you are SOL.

You could also try resetting the router not the network settings. Just turn it off for I'd say, 10-15 seconds the back on. Make sure you have ALL devices turned off before doing this!!

You can also try or have someone else try this last thing. You can prioritize what traffic goes to the top part of the list. I'd check in your router settings & see what's going on in there. I'm sorry about the fact that I can't tell you where at the top of my head.

As you can see here, it could be a whole myriad of things causing this. Hope these suggestions help. Good luck.

thanks for all the suggestions. I currently have my Wi-Fi set so it doesn't broadcast, so I normally connect to it by selecting "Other" and entering my information manually.

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with a low signal as I currently live in a apartment size condo, so I normally have great signal throughout my home.

I do have a couple of ideas of what I could do before I resort to resetting my device settings, but if all else fails, I might have to go that path and reset all of my settings.

I am still hopeful that perhaps the iOS 10.2 update might of resolved this issue, even though I am pretty certain that this is a longshot, but we can always dream.

Thanks for your suggestions, it is greatly appreciated!

Go to Settings - Wi-Fi, turn it off and then on again.
Restart your iPad mini.
Reboot it. (Press Home button and Power button at the same time until the Apple logo appears.)
You can follow these steps:
"In Settings - Wi-Fi tap the arrow in the blue circle next to your provider, choose "Forget this Network". Then set it up again.
Restart your router. (Turn it off for more than 10 seconds, then on again.)
On your iPad, go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings. Set it up again.
Sometimes it's possible that you have to change the channel on your router."
