Hi, all! I finally got the pretty ultramarine iPhone 16 I've been wanting ever since I first heard about it. Trading in my iphone 13 pro didn't go quite according to plan, but I got a $300 trade-in credit towards this new phone, so I suppose it was worth all of the hassel and stress I had to deal with until things finally got up and running smoothly on Friday night. Anyway, I've noticed that every time I open an email message, VO ssays "summarize" At first, with my hearing issues, I thought it was saying sunrise, which made absolutely no sense. I finally figured out that, presumeably because of apple intellegence, there's a summarize button with every email. Is there a way to hide that button, or at least change something so that voiceover won't announce it every single time I open a new message? It's not the end of the world if nothing can be done, but if there is a way to fix it, I'd really appreciate the info. Thanks!

Turning off summary in Mail App.
Hello,
Go into Settings and double tap Apps at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down to Mail and double tap it. Locate the heading Message List. Swipe right from there and you will have an item called Summarise Message Previews double tap this to turn it off. This should solve your issue.
Which version of iOS are you…
Which version of iOS are you on, I think I am on iOS 18.3 and I don’t see this issue, yes summaries are enabled, I love them by the way, not so much for notification summaries since they’re a little too high level to be useful
I'm going to check this option.
I have iOS 18.3 on my iPhone 16. I know I have summarize preview set to off, so maybe vo is not interpreting that setting correctly? Thanks for your responses. it set to off, so
I don't think that's it....
I've not used this so take what I say with a pinch of salt but you should be able to turn off the AI stuff in settings.
Here's what I found: 1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Scroll down, and tap Apple Intelligence.
3. Tap the switch next to Apple Intelligence to turn it off, then tap Turn Off in the pop-up window.
That should do it.
|It's the AI doing this
As Brad states it is the AI doing this. It will do the same thing for messages as well. You can still then go into the mail or text to read the whole thing. So, if you don't want it just turn off AI in settings.
Summarise Preview settings on iPhone 15 Pro Max under iOS18.3.
If I turn off Summarise Previews off on my iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 18.3 then the summery does not appear in mail messages. However further down this list you still have the ability to set preview to one, two lines or off.
Sounds like I'm pissed off just ignoring the word summarize when
I just want to thank everyone who has responded. I have never used previews for email messages; I have that set to none in the Mail settings. Toggling the summarize button seems to have no effect. I don't want to turn off Apple Intelligence altogether, because I'd like to use the visual intelligence features at some point, and if I disable Apple Intelligence, then there wasn't much point in getting the iPhone 16 in the first place. :-) so, at least for now, it sounds like I'm best off just leaving it alone and ignoring that it says the word summarize. It does not do that with text messages, which is why I found it to be a bit strange. Anyway, thanks again for all the suggestions, and I hope that everyone is having a great day.
