Isn't Siri supposed to have offline capabilities?

Hi everyone. From what I've heard, Siri is suppose to have off-line capabilities, yet when I activate her off-line, it won't work. Am I missing something? Perhaps it's region specific?

I believe this is on iPhone 12's family of phones and the 13s only. The AI processing is possible on those chips, but not on the 11 and down. Also, iOS 15 should be running fo this to work.

My understanding is that there might be two reasons why this isn't working for you.

Firstly, your device needs to have an A12 Bionic chip or later, as it requires the Neural Engine.

Then there are the region/language constraints. According to MacRumors, On-device processing is available in German (Germany), English (Australia, Canada, India, UK, U.S.), Spanish (Spain, Mexico, U.S.), French (France), Japanese (Japan), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland), and Cantonese (Hong Kong).

If you have ticked these two boxes, then there are a very limited number of Siri commands which are available offline:

  • Create and disable timers and alarms.
  • Launch apps.
  • Control Apple Music and Podcasts audio playback.
  • Control system settings including accessibility features, volume, Low Power mode, Airplane mode, and so on.

So, not much to get excited about in my opinion.

Hope this helps ☺️

Apparently, Siri's language must be English United States. Secondly, it must be on an iPhone XR, S and up.

I can't get it to convert let's say C to F off line, sad indeed. I thought that would have been possible. I can though now do everything else though which is cool.

I just got an iphone 13 pro, and I do live in the US. When I look at the offline siri stuff, it says it will download when I'm connected to wifi. I'm at home with excellent wifi, so am not sure why nothing is happening. Also, my siri language is set to US english, but I prefer the Irish female siri voice. Is that why I can't get it to work. I have switched to the siri american voice, but nothing has changed so far as I can tell. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but as much as I paid for this phone, I want to make the most out of features that didn't exist on my 8 plus. Thanks!

Yes, you should have US or UK english as the default voice

My Siri is set for English Canada and English UK voice and when I turn airplane mode on I can use Siri to set timers etc. with no problem on iPhone SE it is somewhat limited though.
