iPhone overheating

Hey everyone!
I’ve noticed that ever since upgrading to iOS 17.4.1, my phone has been overheating. I’m not sure if any of you have experienced the same thing, but it’s becoming quite uncomfortable, especially when I’m using Safari or texting, but honestly, it happens almost every time I use an app. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Hi,
What model is your iPhone?
I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro Max & notice this sometimes.
My phone is almost 2 years old and my battery isn’t holding up very well either.
I plan to get a new phone as soon as I’m able.

Safari, texting, should not do it that much. Is Facebook, X?, or what does it for me, daily mail? I'm saying look at what's running in the background and narrow it down that way, besides that, the model number helps, how long have you had it, and though I don't believe much, see what Apple says themselves about a healthy battery.

I have an iPhone 15+. Maybe it’s just some software issue, but it’s not comfortable. Hopefully they will fix it soon.

Hi! I don’t have Facebook or X installed on my iPhone. I’ve noticed this issue with almost every app, even when I’m simply texting. I had background updates turned on, but I’ve disabled them to see if it reduces overheating. My iPhone is a 15+, and according to Apple, the battery’s maximum capacity is at 100%. It’s likely a software problem that they might address in the next update, but it’s becoming quite uncomfortable.

Hi Sara,

Hopefully yours is just from the latest iOS software update, and not something more sinister, like faulty hardware or firmware. I have said this before here on AppleVis, back in early December of last year, I upgraded from an iPhone SE 2020 to an iPhone 15 Pro. I only had the phone for less than two weeks, and it overheated so bad that it bricked. Took it back and got replacement, and about a week or so later the exact same thing happened.

At this point, the iPhone had only been a couple of months old, in terms of when the iPhone 15 was released, and I purchased it from a reputable cell phone dealership. I do not know exactly what caused the issue (for me) with the overheating, although I have read reports where others have experienced iPhone 15 models overheating as well.

As I said, hopefully this is a software issue for you, and something that could be easily resolved. For me, I had to go back to my old phone, because my iPhone 15 Pro got so hot that holding it became uncomfortable. 🙁

I know that when you update sometimes, like, for the first couple of days, your phone is getting used to the new installation, so maybe that's what is causing the problem. Regarding the whole battery complicated issue with Apple, I don't understand their system at all. How can I buy a device with a battery, and you're going to tell me that when the percentage drops below 80%, or something like that, then I should consider changing the battery. Shouldn't 80% still be good? If it was like, 50%, or somewhere below there, I could understand. It doesn't seem to match up, but I'm not a genius when it comes to this kind of thing so maybe it's only me. I don't want my phone to charge up to 80%, and try to determine when I'm going to be using my device, but even when I turn off that feature, my phone is still stuck at 80% for a long time. I'm guessing that when the time is hot, especially if you're living in it a tropical region, your phone can get pretty hot, even when you're not doing much on it.

Do not know if you had done so, but restart device. That might help. The times I got this issue, I did restart and no more issues.

Hey everyone!
I believe I’ve pinpointed the issue. WhatsApp ended up using a ton of battery in the last 24 hours, and I don’t even use it that much for it to drain so much. I’ve turned off background updates, and it seems like the iPhone isn’t heating up anymore. Still, I’ll need to figure out what caused this since it’s never happened before. Thanks for your feedback and assistance.

iPhone 15pro here. Just over heated while browsing safari for boat parts. Literally nothing heavy.

Hello! I turned off background updates, and my iPhone isn’t heating up as much. You might find that disabling background updates could also help.
