iPhone Cellular Data Controls

Greetings,

I am a long time iPod Touch user who is considering an iPhone. I'm wondering how much control I would have over the use of cellular data.

I have WiFi access at home and work, and have never needed the internet when I'm away. I'm considering getting an iPhone with a minimal data plan, and wonder how much control I have over its use.

For example, I know that with iCatcher, I can set it such that it only fetches podcasts when connected to WiFi. Can I do the same for apps that run in the background like Mail, Facebook, Twitter, and the like?

How much control does an iPhone user have over the use of cellular dats?

Thanks.

Hi,
You have a lot of control.
First, at home your phone automatically connect to wifi. So you don't have to worry about wasting data plan.
Secondly, You can turn access off and on to your apps. So you indeed can control app access to your data allowance in the Cellular tab in Settings.

On top of what the previous commenter stated above, you can also see exactly how much cellular data each individual app has used.

Thanks for the info. I'm still not convinced I "need" an iPhone, but I certainly am lusting in my heart. It's good to know I could get by on a minimal data plan and have the necessary controls to make it work for me.
