IPad’s Split-screen function: is it accessible for us VoiceOver users?

I recently bought myself an iPad 9th Generation, and have been hearing off/on how the sighted take advantage of the Split-screen view. So I've been wondering if this is accessible for us VoiceOver users? And if so, what gesture is there to quickly switch between the default "Full-screen View" to the "Split Screen"? Thanks in advance for tiss on this matter.

It is accessible. You start by going to the status bar and navigating to where it says "[App in use], multitasking controls". Click that, then exit and re-enter the status bar to see the options: slide over and split screen. Selectsplit screen and it'll take you to a list of apps to split screen. Select the one you'd like to use. VoiceOver should announce your two apps as in "[App A] on right, [App B] on left" and to get to one of them tap on the designated side of the screen. I don't think there's a way to locate the multitasking controls, by swiping, but you can locate the center of the screen (This would be right above the home button) and tapping it. You should hear "Split view divider" and then swipe down to the action you want, then double tap.

If you need/want to swipe to the multi-tasking controls, go back up the multi-tasking menu the previous commenter mentioned. If you swipe right from there you'll get to the divider and also the multi-tasking menu for the other app in split screen.

Also, the older system where you could Also, the older system to get an app in slit screen still works - bring up the dock and swiping up and down on any app there has the option to bring it into split screen.

I feel like it’s better when VoiceOver is turned off and turned on. It really doesn’t make a difference on the home screen. It’s just a clunky, messed up, piece of, honest, you know, junk in my opinion.. Especially on small screen iPads like the iPad 7.9 inch mini.

Wait what I thought there was only slide over in the dock? Hmmm

First, no, the dock doesn't just do slideover. As you swipe down you get open left, open right, and slideover. Again, though, this is 16, I have no idea if they've finally removed it in 17.

As for it being junk, well, that's a matter of opinion. As a long time primary iPad user, I use it a lot, particularly when I'm genuinely working with two apps. Having them both on the screen at once is a much smoother experience for me than switching backwards and forwards between the two, particularly these days when my iPad's old enough that loading up an app takes time, ☺️. I think perhaps it works better, though, if you use the iPad primarily by touch, and move your hand around the screen using it spacially, rather than with a lot of swipe gestures and such. It's a lot easier if you're moving your hand from side to side to see both apps, I think. With that in mind, I think a mini would be harder to split-screen with, since you're dealing with less space and smaller apps, but this is only a guess since I've never used one.
