Hello all. Generally, I enjoy using the Mail app to check my Email on the go. The only problem is that when I then access my Email on my home computer, all of the messages that I've already read download again into my Outlook account. I then have to sit there deleting all these redundant messages I've already read, replied to, or deleted in the iOS app. Is there a way to tell the app not to leave a copy on the server after it downloads messages? That way, when Outlook on my computer checks the server, it will only download new, unread messages that iOS hasn't already accessed? I wonder if syncing is supposed to do this? So far, my contacts and calendar are syncing beautifully, but I still am getting two copies of new Emails; one on Outlook and one on iOS. Thanks in advance.

You should check the account
You should check the account settings in Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars. If you are using IMAP for email, then on iOS, just delete the message and it will be gone from your Inbox on any other client using IMAP. If you are still using POP3 for whatever reason, then by default iOS doesn't delete from the server and you have to configure that behaviour in Settings. But I would advise moving over to IMAP regardless because that's how you get perfect synchronisation of your email account between devices; POP3, while it has been retrofitted to function like IMAP for the Inbox, really isn't a very suitable protocol for the modern email scenario of multiple devices simultaneously accessing the same account.
How do we switch to imap then
How do we switch to imap then? I'd like to do it.
What email do you have?
What email do you have? Verizon? Gmail? You have to set up imap by going to, say for instance, the Verizon web mail page and change your settings. I know Gmail has the imap option but some do not.
Imap
I still use Pop3 because, believe it or not, I do not *want* my email to be synced between devices.
My Email
Hi Betsy, thanks for asking. I use Verizon. I've just always used Outlook, and honestly, I didn't know Verizon had a Webmail page like say, Gmail or Yahoo. If I could change my settings to IMAP, and make it more syncable, I'd love to do it!!
I don't use Verizon, I use
I don't use Verizon, I use Gmail, but my sister uses Verizon. She just recently complained to me that deleted email messages were showing up on other devices. I Googled and found several articles about the same complaint and the bottom line was that Verizon used POP and that is the reason. But then I also saw articles describing email setup with Verizon that involve IMAP options. So I don't know if its possible to have IMAP with Verizon or not. Could you call Verizon and ask?
