iOS 7.1 and 'location tracking'

Hi All, I updated IOS to 7.1 yesterday and I have not experienced any problems so far apart from 'location tracking' being 'on' all the time. Previously, I went to the app switcher by hitting the home button twice and doing the three finger swipe thing to close them down. However, with IOS 7.1 I have no apps open and the 'location tracking' is still on. It is not that problematic but it does drain the battery a bit (today in eight hours I went from 100 percent to 74 percent) without much use but it is annoying because I know it's there! Is it a fault with IOS 7.1 or is there an easy solution that I don't know about? Just for the record, I find IOS 7.1 fine apart from a slight reduction in the clicking noise when I hit the four number code to open my iPhone 5s if I don't use the finger print process. Thank you, Steve.

Hello Steven, As you are not alone on people starting to see the Location Services being displayed at the top of your Status Bar. The best way to isolate in which app is keeping this on. Do the following: 1. Go to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services 2. Now go down the list You will see the name of the app and if you have given it permission to use the Location Services. On some it will even say it was used with in the last 24 ours. The most important one that we are seeking for are the ones that says is currently being used. So now for the fun part. ;) You will need to start by cross eliminating in which might be the problem child. So by turning those that are currently running. Try ticking those to OFF. Do this one by one. So turn one to OFF. Wait for a few hours. Has it dramatically improved? There you have it. If not, try the next suspect. Be sure to visit the Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh a vist as well. Go through this list. Make sure you turn OFF for those apps that you could live without being refresh in the background. There are quite a few people including myself that have seen this more of an issue since the iOS 7.1. At one point I thought I had read that Apple was changing in how the Background App Refresh works with in the NEW iOS 7.1. If that is the case. One would or could assume that some apps may need to be rewritten to be more optimized to those changes so it wouldn't drain our battery so quickly. So happy unting. If you do find the culprit. Please do share it with us. HTH

Here some solutions that you could try. These of course are just suggestions. I have already posted this suggestion over at: http://www.applevis.com/forum/ios-ios-app-discussion/ios-71-and-location-tracking#comment-23090 So I will post it in here as well. Even thought this was specifically for those that were never having the Location Services turned ON. It could be something to check any way. Hi HTH, I'll give it a try tomorrow. As I am in the UK it's 9.30 PM now and I'm just about to sit down and watch the BBC news... It sounds like a long job, so some time at work tomorrow at lunchtime sounds like it's now booked for some Sherlock Holmes time. Steve.

Hi all, Try your weather in news apps first. My two culprits were CNN and Fahrenheit. Hope this helps. TC

Hello HTH, After your helpful comments I followed your instructions and 'location tracking' is now off. I'm not quite sure which of the app refreshes I switched off but as you asked, these are the ones that might be the 'problem child'. I believe it is either 'It's My Stop', 'Facebook' or 'Ariadne GPS', sorry about the spelling here. Another possibility is 'BBC News' but I switched this one off and then on again, so I don't know if that would have activated 'location tracking' again? Thank you again, Steve.
Hi again HTH, Rather by mistake than design, I've found the culprit! I've just looked at the local whether for a place called Chelmsford in Essex England where my university is and where I work and 'location tracking' is back on. I tried to switch off again by closing the app in app switcher and nothing happened. I then followed your instructions again and switched it off and on again. 'location tracking' has now gone! The app is BBC Weather. I'm not sure if anyone outside the UK would have it but if you have, you might like to try the same instructions given by HTH. Thank you, Steve.
