From iOS 18 update, No effect when changing VoiceOver's volume

Hello everyone,

Since I updated to iOS 18, the option to adjust the volume using the rotor no longer works. I have to go into the VoiceOver speech settings to change the voice volume I use. It's strange because on another iPhone, it still seems to work normally. The issue is with my phone, but I can't figure out what's wrong. Knowing that after migrating from my iPhone 11 Pro to an iPhone 16 Pro, the problem is still there.
Any ideas before I try to reset the VoiceOver settings?

Thank you.

This is exactly what Apple is all about. They introduced new voice settings, but forgot about many connections within the system.

As a result, the synthesizer volume on the dial is not actually the synthesizer's volume, but the difference between speech and sounds. The setting for muting during speech is also broken. In the range of 0-100%, nothing really changes. A noticeable difference can only be observed after exceeding 100%. To achieve the muting effect as in the previous system, this parameter must be set to around 190%. Therefore, it seems completely useless.

Moreover, assigning voices to actions, for example, for different applications also leads to improper behavior.

They introduced this in macOS as well, and it all works poorly there too.

@gar The problem occurs with all voices I'm using.

@Adrian Wyka true but the problem is not present on a friend's iPhone 15 Pro. So I guess something went wrong during the update process...

Have you tried going to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Audio > VoiceOver Sounds & Haptics, and enabled/disabled, Match Speech Volume, to see if that changes anything with the rotor volume control?

Also, have you tried adjusting volume from the control center, or enabling/disabling VO haptics?

Just throwing out some suggestions. . . 😇

Strange. Following your suggestion regarding VoiceOver's haptics and sounds, I notice that when the match volume switch is on, the volume of the sounds is indeed modified when I use the rotor volume option, but the volume of the voice stays unchanged. Altering the volume from the control center doesn't help.
Thanks anyway.

Hi there,
I've experienced this issue myself, and in my testing, it only seems to impact Eloquence voices. Alex, Samantha and other non-Eloquence voices work as they always have, while Eloquence doesn't seem to change its volume no matter if you set it to 1% or 100% with the volume rotor.
I hope this helps.

Hi all,
I finally managed to resolve my issue by resetting each voice's settings to their default parameters. However, there still seems to be a problem between the volume adjusted from the rotor and the voice's own volume. If I reset the voice settings and adjust its volume, everything works fine with the rotor's volume. But if I go back into the voice settings and touch its volume slider, it breaks the rotor's volume, and I have to reset the voice settings again.

this seems to affect each voice individually though.
Anyway, thanks to those who tried to help me.
