ELI is a personal assistant for the visually impaired that help identify objects. ELI is NOT a QR Code Scanner. ELI uses unique and special QR coded adhesive labels that do not limit the amount of voice recording that can be stored with each label. Each label is associated with the unique language of the user. Each unique QR coded label is programmable and can be re-recorded an unlimited number of times. ELI has a built-in voice-guided instructions to assist in guiding you through the App.

You can purchase your ELI Label set of 100 unique QR coded adhesive labels at:
http://www.envisioneli.com for $20 USD.

I've listened to the video, but several questions remain.

First, where are the label recordings stored? Surely not on the label itself. Are they stored on the phone or in the cloud? Can you scan a given code from different devices and get the same result?

How durable are the labels? Can they be reused? For instance, once you've finished your bottle of medicine, can you remove the label from that bottle and place it on your next month's supply?

What size are these labels? Or do they come in different sizes and/or shapes?

I assume these are not washable labels, so they'd not work for labelling clothing. Is that right?

Today the recordings are stored on the phone with a very small footprint. ELI is a personal identifier only and other devices listening to the same label are not supported in this initial release. The next release which is in progress will have additional options to have a "Private Group" (only those in the private group can hear the message) and an "Public" message (Anyone with ELI can hear the recorded message) storage in the cloud.

The ELI labels are very durable and can be reused multiple times. The adhesive allows you to remove it from the object and place on another object. You can keep the same message or record a new one on that ELI label.

The Standard ELI Label is 1x1 inches today as ordered online. We have already validated that we can go as small as 1/4x1/4 inches which will support our future deployments.

The labels are not washable.

Great Questions...

Thanks Richard

We are now in pre-production for washable labels! The feedback we have received has been tremendous and we will soon be announcing their availability on our website and FaceBook page at https://www.facebook.com/envisioneli/

We are also in pre-production for a smaller label that is 1/2"x1/2" which is smaller than the current label.

Richard

how does using this app compare to the penfriend 2? does anyone have any experiences?
I recently got myself a penfriend 2 but I find myself increasingly dissatisfied with its limitations because you can't use it to type in text descriptions for labels and are forced to use your own voice for recordings.
I pointed this out in an email to the eli developers so I look forward to them replying to that plus my other questions,
what I do like about the penfriend 2 is that I can have a row of cds on a shelf and just run it across a row of labels to quickly try to find something, I am wondering how practical this is with running the iPhone across a row of labels I mean I assume the camera has to be fairly distant from the label so it can see it, and also the other thing that I wonder is what is to stop the camera picking up the wrong label if I am just running it across a row of things, at least the penfriend 2 doesn't do that.
any experiences of this vs penfriend 2 would be appreciated.
at the moment it does feel a bit like they have tried to reinvent the wheel, having said that private labels are a nice feature, and it does feel like the penfriend developers aren't interested really in updating there device to take account of new technology.
its also possible I have a faulty penfriend but I have found it often gets sluggish when trying to scan labels and sometimes doesn't respond at all till I restart it, so I am actively considering returning it plus also the support I have received from the penfriend 2 manufacturers has been terrible to say the least.

ELI is unique because it has a patented process that allows you to store your voice on the label which is resident on your phone. You can use it anywhere using your smartphone. Also, ELI is releasing a smaller label that will allow you to adhere them to more objects. Please note the ELI IS FREE and a pack of 100 small labels is only $20 USD...

Today, there is no plan to support text input as we here at ELI have been working with many Visually Impaired organizations that have focused on improving the app from a usability perspective.

We have received your email and will be responding privately.

Kind Regards
