Hello, I was asked by a student whether it is possible to insert your own notes in IBooks for the ipad using voice over? the student will be returning to college and this feature may be helpful. As I am not familiar with this aspect of both IBooks and voice over I figured someone on this site may have information. Thanks.

From my few minutes of playing around I have figured out that you can create a note by first dragging your finger on the text until VoiceOver reads just one line. Now do a two finger pinch like you are separating your fingers to expand a photo. This will highlight a little text. It's not important which word is highlighted at this point. You just need to highlight a word so that you can get to the Edit function of the two finger rotor. If you are not sure what I mean by two finger rotor, you just twist two fingers on the screen like you are turning a knob. After you have chosen Edit, you are ready to start placing notes in your text easily. Now go to a place in the book where you would like to place a note. Drag one finger until you find the line you would like to make a note at. Do a two finger pinch like you are separating your fingers and then swipe one finger up or down until you hear "Note." Double tap to select Note. You are ready to begin typing a note about that particular section. After you have typed your note, tap outside of the keyboard area and you will hear, "Dismiss note text area." After you have dismissed the note, you can access it by swiping left or right until you hear "AE margin note." Double tap to open it. Another useful part of notes is in the Table of Contents. Find that button next to the Library button on any page of the book. Go there and then navigate to the Notes tab. Double tap to enter it and you will find all the notes you have made in your book. You can then email them or print them with the Action button on that page. At first I thought the notes function was going to be almost inaccessible with VoiceOver, but now I am thinking it's not that bad. Let me know what you think after trying these steps.
