IMovie: How to trim a video with VO on?

Hello applevis and especially hi video editors,
I got back into iMovie today because I have to edit a video. The app somehow lost a bit of its accessibility since I last used it a few years ago, and one particular thing doesn't work at all anymore, or I just can't figure it out.
I want to trim a clip, not just the end of it, but I want to have a part in the middle. I want to remove a few seconds at the beginning and a few at the end. So voice over tells me (only when exploring with a finger) left selection and right selection (freely translated - my phone is in french). The problem now is that it never tells me both of them. Once it only gave me the left selection, now I only get the right selection. Actually they should show up together so you could move them around to trim the part you need. With sighted help, I found out that they can see those yellow selection elements and they tapped for me on the one I couldn't see with voice over and - nothing. So I didn't miss it with my finger or something.
Does anyone know what's wrong or what I can do to trim my video in iMovie?
