How to route Voiceover to Echo device

iOS and iPadOS

I have and iPhone 15 Pro with the latest version of iOS 17.

I have paired my phone with my Amazon Echo device and can listen to music, podcast, etc. which is playing on my phone through the Echo device.

I would also like to hear Voiceover (and Siri if possible) speaking through my Echo device.

In prior versions of iOS I thought there was an "Audio destination" option that I could add to the rotor, but I no longer see this.

Is there some way of routing both the iPhone's audio and Voiceover to my Echo device?

Thanks.

Hello, I’ll try to explain, I hope I can make sense. If you go to the settings on your iPhone and then choose Bluetooth, you will find a list of devices. When you find your Echo device, swipe down on the device to find more information. double tap on ‘more info’ and you will have an option to choose what type of device your Echo is, it is probably set as a speaker. We don’t want it as a speaker, you should choose headphones or hearing aids. After you choose, turn Bluetooth off and on again and the VoiceOver sound will come out of your Echo device. I hope I made sense and was helpful. I don’t always see comments, feel free to send me an email through the form.

Sara,

Thanks for the suggestion about getting into the bluetooth settings and selecting the Echo device as "headphones" instead of "speaker". Now Voiceover as well as other audio comes out of my Echo device.

Who would have thought to look there? I would have thought that the phone had settings to choose what audio gets sent to the Echo device.

Anyway, thanks again.

Any of those other settings will have Voiceover coming out of the speaker. I have mine set to 'other' and it does the same thing. Hopefully that will be resolved in iOS 18, but I highly doubt it, since the audio destination thing has been broken for some time now.
