I'm curious to know how much data you're buying per month in your cellular plan, and whether that's just for you, or how many people you share with. Also, do you think you have enough data, too much, or too little?
My plan is to write a blog article about data usage, and your responses here will guide the content of my article. Thanks in advance.

5gig with the leftover rolled over for one month
Hey Paul,
"I'm curious to know how much data you're buying per month in your cellular plan,"
5gig, but any unused gets rolled over for one month and added to the new month's 5gig. When the next month after that arrives, the original still-leftover amount is deleted.
"and whether that's just for you, or how many people you share with."
My wife and I share the 5gig.
"Also, do you think you have enough data, too much, or too little?
We tend to have an average of around 8 gig at any one time. Is it too much? So far. Is it too little? Not yet. Do I like it this way? Yes. It is always better to have too much than not enough, particularly in view of how expensive it would get if I had to start buying extra from my provider because I used up what I had in some future emergency.
What emergency? Don't know. I'll know when I get there, though.

The Plan
I have unlimited data now. I don't believe in too much data. There's been many times when the regular internet connection through wires in the ground and strung on power poles has failed for my computer and home, and I had to have some ancient relay switch or circuit hunted down and replaced, once all the way back at the headquarters of the provider, which can take weeks.. just to get a technician to come out and tell me he needs to call in a more technical technician to fix it.
So I need my cell connection to be a full time backup system at any time.
2GB a month
I have a 2GB plan, that is just my phone. It's enough for me, the way I use the phone. It's a rare month I use more than 500MB.
I don't stream content away from my home internet, and instead sync music and other content with iTunes at home. When I'm out and about, I rarely have the urge to be online other than calls, texts, and emails. The odd time I need to look something up barely taps my data cap.
I also still use Nearby Explorer because of the on board maps.Travelling using on demand apps would probably require me to upgrade.
My responses
I'm pretty sure I am paying for way too much data. I have an unlimited data plan and my speed will throttle at 25Gb. I'm sharing a plan with a friend, who actually needs data because she doesn't pay for wifi.
My data plan comes in use if I need to be online on my commute to take care of an emergency. If it weren't for my hotspot, I would say that I'm paying for too much data unnecessarily.
Good luck with your article!
My data.
I think I get 20 gb eatch month.
5 GB
My plan is through an NVMO called Ting. I get 5 GB a month and can add more for $5 per GB. It seems to be the perfect amount for me; I seem to hit just about 5 GB and have only gone over once or twice in the last year. I only have myself on my plan and it's about $25.
12GB
My plan is for 12GB of data with unlimited calls and texts, and costs the equivalent to $10.
I am rather embarrassed to admit that in most months I rarely use more than 1GB of that data 🙉
unlimited data
Last year Verizon had a plan for 12 pro for $75 unlimited. Still do. I do not if they still have it but there it goes. Do not even use it but is nice to have it.
my cellular data plan
hello,
My plan is currently ten GB/m. I pay $75.00+taz, and $15 for visual voicemail. I am with Bell in Canada, living in the country. Bell is the only provider which gives me service where I live. I envy Americans with the reasonable cellular prices and also NVMOs to boot. the Canadian Radio television telacomunacations commission (CRTC,) does not currently permit NVMOs in to the country. I meant to mention this and turn it into an election issue when the last one was, but didn't, probably I was misunderstood by a Liberal Candidate who came to work, and I asked him, What would you do about letting NVMOs into the country? He responded by telling me that the government took the telecoms to cort and one. so they have to let the small provincial carriers in and expand coverage. I didn't mean that, rather, NVMOs in Canada was my goal. . I'll bring it up again when the next federal election is, but for now, I've got what I've got for now. I also have a Cell booster which works well.
Unlimited
I pay 40 dollars for unlimited calls, texts and data with Visible. I also get hotspot, though that's throttled a little in speed. Don't remember the numbers off the top of my head but I know its still enough for me to use my computer when the net goes down. Best of luck and hope it helps.
Tracfone
For around $130 I buy a one year plan that gives me 5 g of data, 5,000 texts and 5,000 minutes of talk. I never come close to using any of it because I do all my communicating and browsing at home on WiFi. My iPhone is an old 6S+ for which Tracfone sent me a SIM card. WIFI calling works fine. I'm very rarely out and about on my own so this is a perfect solution for me.
unlimited plan
Hey,
I have an unlimited plan with aditionall unlimited messages and phonecalls, in adition the plan has an extra 50 GB for EU states. I think it costs around 75 euros a month, yeah, phone plans in Germany are ridiculy expensive.
One gigabyte
I have a one gigabyte data plan shared with my partner. I pay $15 a month for each gig and we rarely go over a gig of data. My provider is Xfinity by Comcast and other large cable companies offer similar programs to their Internet customers. We do not watch videos on cellular data or download updates using our data plan. Xfinity offers millions of Wi-Fi hot spots where data is unlimited. If not near a Wi-Fi hot spot, I can listen to music on the hundreds of albums I have transferred to my 512 GB iPhone 13. The other plus is that the service is on Verizon, which has more coverage and better signal than the other providers.
nothing but unlimitted for me
Way back I was grandfathered into the old ATandT plan. then switched and now on Spectrum, I went unlimitted again. Man, five thousand minutes and five thousand texts? I didn't think that was possible anymore. I'd use up the texts with the very not G rated ones I send. :) i'm so far happy with spectrum but since they use Verizon's towers I don't get it because when I had Verizon itself, the coverage sucked. Ah well. For now, game on. :)
10GB for my Family
I pay $60/month for 10GB plus unlimited talk and text through Xfinity. That is shared with 4 lines in my family. It is just about the right amount, as long as I put data restrictions on my teenagers! But mostly we are on wifi, so it works out well.
20GB
I have 20GB and use nowhere near any of it. am I paying too much? Well such things are relative, aren't they? I can afford to pay what I pay and I need to be online all the time for work, so although our wifi is normallly rock solid it's good to have the insurance policy. I am out and about quite a lot but don't stream videos over mobile data except on the rare occasion where I might want to watch an event on sky Sports while travelling or if I'm in a place whose wifi isn't good enough to support video streaming. I do listen to a lot of radio over mobile data, however. That tends to chew up the megabytes, but not the gigabytes.
Data
I pay $75 a month for my plan with t-mobile. I get unlimited talk, text, and data. I also get unlimited hotspot at 3g speeds. Good plan if I do say so.
Visible user here as well
Hello. I love Visible. Have been using it since Feb of last year and have had no issues. It's nice not worrying about anything running out on you. It's awesome for when the home connection goes out or if you don't like public wifi. I had a plan with like 3 gb and ran out of data very quickly in the month and got put down to 128 KBPS before Visible. @Faerie, you can pay $25 if you join a party pay group. I personally joined the reddit group with like 50000 members or so. I'd recommend Visible to anyone who wants unlimited on Verizon's network for $25. I'd encourage you to seek out a referral link so you can use the service for $5 for the first month.
Wow. Thanks for the responses.
I probably won't blog on this topic. It seems like you all know what you're doing. I should've known the AppleVis community would have a clue.
My sighted spouse has a lot of trouble wrapping her head around what is, and isn't, data. She'll ask me things like, "is Bluetooth data?" Seriously. We share 1GB between us, which is usually enough because wi-fi is readily available pretty much everywhere we go. But she routinely fails to connect to available wi-fi services, and then, boom, we've got a low data text warning and a week to go before our monthly plan refreshes.
We've talked about going to a 2GB plan. We've never exceeded that. But for now we're sticking with 1GB and I'll keep working with her on connecting to available wi-fi. Wish me luck.
