Hello, would any one help me out of this VoiceOver issue? It has started when I updated my phones to iOS 27.
Device information:
- Primary device: iPhone 16 Pro
- Secondary device: iPhone 13 Mini
- OS: iOS 27.0
- TTS Engine: Occurs with any voice
- System language: mainly Japanese, changing to English didn't fix the problem
I have reproduced the issue on both devices.
DESCRIPTION
VoiceOver sometimes prepends an unrelated word or label to the actual content of the currently focused element. I notice this particularly when focusing on plain text, unlabeled elements, text fields, and when moving into a different region of the screen.
For example, when focusing on my Wi-Fi network in the status bar, VoiceOver reads something similar to:
"back Buffalo-5G-1040, Wi-Fi 3 bars out of 3"
The word "back" has no apparent relationship to the currently focused element and should not be spoken.
Importantly, this does not appear to be simply an audio or speech synthesizer issue.
When I use VoiceOver's "Copy Last Spoken Phrase" command, the unrelated word is also included in the copied output. For example, the clipboard contains:
"backBuffalo-5G-1040 ,..."
REPRODUCTION AFTER RESETTING VOICEOVER
Initially, I suspected that one of my customized VoiceOver settings might be responsible. However, I was able to reproduce the issue on my secondary iPhone without changing any VoiceOver settings:
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver and reset VoiceOver settings.
- Immediately after the reset, VoiceOver behaves normally and the unrelated words are no longer spoken.
- Do not change any VoiceOver settings.
- Turn VoiceOver off.
- Turn VoiceOver back on.
- The issue immediately returns.
Therefore, the problem does not appear to depend on a particular customized VoiceOver setting. Simply restarting VoiceOver after resetting its settings is enough to reproduce the problem.
DETAILS
Examples of unrelated words I have heard include:
- "back"
- "Search"
- "ad"
- Some one-word app names
After the unrelated word changes, VoiceOver begins prepending that word to otherwise unrelated elements.
This is extremely annoying when reading web pages and SNS posts, so I would like to know if any one has run into this problem before, and if it can be fixed.

This is actually a bug that was reported in the iOS blog post ab
This was actually a bug reported in the blog post regarding the iOS 27 bugs for voiceover years. You can check back there I think to see if there was a solution cause I don’t remember what their solution was unfortunately. So yes, this is unfortunately a known issue and iOS 27.
custom labels!
i had this annoying isue for a long time and on multiple devices! it felt like a virus!!
but in the end i found out that they were like corrupt entries in the custom labels under settings voiceover - verbosity - custom labels.
i always like to label unlabeled elements and it seems that sometimes screwed up the entries in the custom labels
that is also why reseting VO settings has no impact - as it does not affect that.
i radically trimed my entries and all was well!

The problem was solved right away by deleting the custom labels for unlabeled elements, just as you pointed out.
Finally, I can read SNS posts without being annoyed with the unnecessarylabels.
