Help with Apple Maps and Starting point detection

Hello all,

I hope all are well. To my understanding, as of iOS 16, there is supposed to be a starting point detection feature in Apple Maps. I copied the description I found from Apple “ Starting point detection with VoiceOver in Maps. VoiceOver users now get automatic sound and haptic feedback that identifies the starting point for walking directions in Maps“.

Now here my question, has anybody figured out how to get this feature to work. I’ve tried everything I can think of when navigating in maps, but I can’t get a starting point detection of what so ever. No sound, no haptic, no nothing. What do you have to do get this to work. Has anybody got this to work? Please help this is driving me crazy, because I need to navigate allot. Thanks in advance. Take care.

Have a great day

iOS 16.4 rc suppose to release update with VO for maps and weather navegation under accessibility and VO. It should come out next week when iOS 16.4 is out. Hope it fix that issue.

Hello Holger,

Thanks for your response. I hope it gets fixed under 16.4. If I understand you correctly, you’re having the same issue? If so, I’m sorry to hear that but glad to hear it’s not just me. So hoping for a fix. Again thanks for your response.

Have a great day

Hello Holger,

For my understanding and i could very well be mistaken, in the iOS 16.4 rc, what gets mentioned is “Voiceover support for maps ** IN ** the weather app” and not as you mentioned VO support for maps and weather. At least according to the tech websites I follow. Sorry for sounding like a smarty pants, definitely not my intention. Appreciate you responding to my post. As said I’m probably mistaken. But if this were to be so, then maybe it’s just me being stupid.

Take care and have a great day

P.S. hopefully others can contribute into the discussion about Starting point detection in Maps

Within accessibility now maps work with VO regarding navegation. I think they did something new to it. Regarding weather, widgets work well with the weather apps. More accessible. The post did not go into much info about maps just mention accessibility and maps.
