Headphones will not work, please help!

Hi all,
I am having an annoying problem wth my iPhone 6 running IOS 10.2: this is only having downloaded a new app called DAB radio free. I did not like it much so I deleted it.
However, ever since then, my headphones will not work. I have tried several pairs with the same result, although I do get a noise as I plug in which I guess is the poles of the headphone jac going into the socket.
So, is this my phone, the app or have I done something with settings without realising?
If it is thelatter, then does anyone know how to adjust the headphone settings? Could the app dab radio switched headphones off or from now on (until I get my new iPhone 8 in September) will I have to use Bluetooth?

Try:
1. Reset your iPhone 6. Nothing will be lost.
2. Try updating to iOS 10.2.1.
3. Go to the hearing section of accessibility settings.
4. Make sure that the stereo balance for both channels (headphones) is at 50 percent.

I had something similar happen recently, although it was with an app that I use quite often. To fix the problem, I simply powered my iPhone off and then back on again. Please try that before resetting your iPhone.

Dear both,
Thank you for your comments and I am sorry for themissed letters in my last message: I did not hve tim o check themessage before posting it.
However, before taking your advice I checked 4 sets of headphones with 3.5mm jack plugs and all of them did not work (I have used all of these before and they all woked fine). I then got the standard pair of earphones supplied by Apple with a new IPhone (the ons with the on/off switch on the cable). At this point, I must say that I do not like these because they are too big for my ears and they tend to fall out all the time. I fitted these into the jack socket and they worked first time. I am now tending to think that after prolonged use over two and a half years, the socket on my IPhone is beginning to break, athough the Apple earphones or more correctly earbuds have a 2.5mm jack plug and I cannot ork out how these would work an the 3.5mm ones wont?
I've now began the update, so I will see what happens.

Hi. Here are a couple of things to try. Remember, your headphone volume on the iPhone is independent of your speaker volume. It's entirely possible that your headphone volume got turned completely down to 0%. I've had this happen, and it's a right pain in the neck. So first, try the following. 1. start a peace of music going, or some other kind of internet stream or something. 2. Now plug your headphones in, and you should still hear nothing but in the next step, we'll fix that. 3. on your phone, press your volume up key several times in rapid succession. You can also do this without an internet stream playing, but you'll need to swipe the screen with one hand, to make VoiceOver speak, and with the other hand, raise the volume on the phone. Also, check your sound settings. Is your volume set to 100%? If not, raise the volume and that'll help, at least for the builtin speaker, the volume on the headphones is independent like I mentioned earlier. I hope some of these suggestions help.

Did you try connecting the headsets to another device to make sure they work? I’ve seen it where the headsets also have a volume control that worked independently of the IOS device. So the device was set to 100 and the wheel on the headset was turned all the way down so nothing was heard on the headset.

The fact that the stock earbuds worked tells me the jack and OS is still good. Check the socket on the device and the plugs on the headsets to ensure they are clean.

Thank you Toonhead,
I used your fix and it worked! I can now ditch the Apple earbuds and go back to my beloved Sennheiser LX90's.
This is why I love this forum so much. I not only get a fix for the problem I've currently got but I learn so much more about my iPhone and how to keep it in tip-top condition. I have a fixed headphone volume, updated to 10.2.1, switched my iPhone off and on which fixed a different glitch and balanced my Sennheiser's by changing the headphone balance in settings from 38/50 to 50/50.
