How do you find the options for inputting punctuations and symbols when in handwriting mode. New update doesn’t allow the handwriting of symbols etc as it did before.

And there is a part about swiping up or down with two fingers to select an alternate character. I was able to tap the screen to make a period when in punctuation mode, then two-finger-swipe through a list of punctuation to find a symbol. You can make another entry, like a space with two-finger-right, and it inserts the symbol.
I was only able to get it to recognize the period, the hyphen and the slash, and mostly only the period consistently. Sadly, the right-two-finger swipe for space sometimes throws me out of the edit field in Notes.
@Tom Paterson, just to be clear, are you saying that the two-finger-swipe up or down to select from a list of extended characters or punctuation in handwriting mode is not working on your phone? I'm on the latest update now.

I only seem to get it to recognize a period and a hyphen. Looks like a bug, but I'm not sure when it started. I don't think I'm on the latest iOS yet.

This has only started since the IOS 17 update, Apple need to correct it

I had thought this would have been 'fixed' with the latest update 17.3.1 but it has not, come on Apple, help us out.
