I'm just beginning my iPhone journey as a blind user. I've noticed that Speech Rate Adjustments within the Voiceover function can only be made at increments of 10%; at least that is what I am encountering so far. Unfortunately 50% is a bit too slow and 60% is too fast; at least at this stage of my journey. I'm a veteran JAWS user and can deal with a very accelerated speech rate under normal circumstances but until I am better acclimated to iPhone and Voiceover I would like to know if there is a way to make Speech Rate Adjustments in lower increments than 10%. As it is, when I swipe up or down it goes in increments of 10% (i.e. 50%, 60%, etc.). If there is a way to adjust Speech Rate in lower increments, I'd be obliged for any suggestions or tips on how to make that possible. Thanks.

Hi You should be able to…
Hi
You should be able to double-tap and hold on the slider, then move your finger slightly left or right to do finer increments or decrements.
Drag to change rate
As the previous poster says, you can also adjust the speech rate by ‘dragging’ the slider. It's still far from perfect, as getting the exact rate you want will likely take some attempts, but it should allow you to get to your preferred rate.
To perform the drag on the slider, first place VoiceOver focus on to it. Now perform a 1 finger double tap and hold, which is when you leave your finger touching the screen at the end of the second tap. Without lifting your finger from the screen, slide it left or right across the screen. As you move your finger, VoiceOver will announce the current position of the slider.
Good luck!
5 per cent increment
If you use rotor to change speed instead of going to the Voiceover settings, you will by all probability be able to change the rate in the multiple of 5 per cent instead of 10. Hth.
Thanks - Re: Granularity Of Speech Rate Adjustments - Voiceover
My sincere thanks to Mlth, Cobbler, and Tripolice for your help. I was able to set a rate of 55% which is perfect; not too slow but still easy to understand until I am more comfortable with this amazing but still largely alien technology. I'm very grateful for your help.
