Face ID with a mask

I just tried to add a face ID with a mask, but it didn't work. I held my arm out as far as it would go, moved it in, moved it back out again, held it until it ached, but nothing happened except for one little blip, which I thought meant I was on the right track, but then nothing more, not a word from Voiceover. Is there any other way I can get this face ID set up? I'm not ready to remove my mask yet, so I really wanted this.

I'm hoping that maybe we'll get some answers on this. You described my experience perfectly. I know that because of the way my eyes are, making "eye contact" with the phone isn't possible, so if that's a requirement to get this feature to work, then I'm probably out of luck. Anyway, I will be following this thread for sure. Good luck!

All I can say right now is that it seems to have worked. I'll know when I try unlocking with a mask. A few instructions of how to make sure your face is centered would be more than helpful for those of us who are total and have never had sight.

I managed to complete the recognition, but I haven't been able to unlock the phone with the mask on any single time. Any tip will be appreciated.

I am totally blind and I'm successfully using face ID with a mask. When you set it up you do not wear a mask. When you have it set up successfully it should work in the same way that face ID would regularly work. I've been using this feature since it was in beta with no problems at all. I also prefer to have the requires attention feature turned on It makes things more secure and I'd rather have that extra layer of protection.

I've also been having a lot of issues with the FaceID wearing a mask feature. Regular FaceID on my phone works flawlessly and I have the attention requirement on with no issues. I was able to successfuly complete the recognition process for FaceID with a mask as instructed by my phone but the feature does not work at all. Since I have an Apple Watch unlocking my phone itself isn't usually an issue as the unlock with Apple Watch feature activates instead but when auto-filling passwords or opening password-protected apps it's a pain in the neck because having to repeatedly fail the FaceID process and enter my passcode is longer than directly entering my passcode which is what I had to do before iOS 15.4. FaceID with a mask is a great feature and I'd love to be able to use it but it isn't cooperating with me at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I turned it off, hope that was the problem, but now I'm having to try over and over to unlock my phone when I'd gotten to the stage where it unlocked almost automatically. Not at all sure it will work when I do have a mask.

When I use a mask I am able to do so with my Series 8. Do not need to setup regular face ID and mask because I have the watch. It should work well without the watch in setting it up.
