SO I have been wanting to set up a DJ system and have a few questions.
Firstly, I will tell you what I want to accomplish. I would like to do turntable to turntable mixing with the addition of scratching. I’m using turntables in this question for point of reference. So essentially virtual turntables not physical turntables.
Is djay still the preferred app?
Can I use it on ios or will I have to get a mac?
I know the Pioneer ddj-sx2 is no longer being produced, should I try to grab one used or is there a new accessible option?
I’m sure I haven’t thought of it all. So all suggestions and advise is welcome.

Hopefully you figured something out already, but in case other people are wondering about this I will revive the thread.
In short I would say yes, DJay does all the things you are looking for very well. There are accessible apps for iOS and macOS. Virtual turntables are totally possible on both, though for best results you will want to use a controller. There are plenty of great options out there, and any listed on Algoriddim's website should work just fine using plug and play. I use and love the Denon MC 4000. On the macOS version which I use you can open up a midi editor which lets you identify what a current key, knob, pad, etc on your controller does simply by touching it (and of course change that behavior if you wish).
Finally, although there is now a version of Virtual DJ for the computer that has been augmented with accessibility through a midi addon by the work of a very cool guy, I think DJay Pro is your only option for iOS. Feel free to post more questions here- I subscribed to the thread and would be happy to help further! And if you see this and already came up with your own solutions I'd love to hear how it's going for you.

How do you view the Midi Viewer to figure out what functions each of the buttons, knobs, and pads do on your controller? This is quite funny, I had just posted a thread regarding something else DJay related a few minutes ago, and happened to stumble on this thread.

Midi Mapping for fun and profit
Hm, good question! I'm not sure how that's done on iOS, but here's how I do it on the Mac.
With your midi controller plugged in, the easiest way to open up your mapping program is by hitting CMD+Y. In the dialog that pops up there is a table with every control on your decks and the function it's currently set to. From there just push any button on your controller and your focus will jump to that control in the table and Voiceover will read it aloud. You can create multiple midi mapping profiles if you want, and I'd suggest making a backup of your default config just in case.
If you're using DJay Pro 2 on your mac, you can also learn and change keyboard shortcuts this way. I think you get there with shift+k.

Thanks for reviving this thread. I'm looking to get back into DJ stuff again. Last time I used a controller with DJ, I had no luck with routing the audio out of the controller's main outputs or headphone jack I was using a Denon controller.
Do I need to find a controller with a built-in audio interface? Or, will they all have this feature? the one I used had a headphone jack and only 2 audio outputs, none of which worked even though I had full control of the app.
Does DJ Pro now play protected .M4P files that are in your Apple Music library?

I haven't gathered up equipment yet. I was going to find a used ddjsx2, but is there another I should look at.I do want to be able to scratch. would it be better to use a mac or could I use an ipad? I'll leave thequestions there and ask further as we go. Hopefully it will end up being informative for someone else as well.
