Displaced Cursor in Edit Fields

Has anyone else had the following problem with the official Twitter app and with other edit fields when entering text? (I'll use my experience with the official Twitter app for this example.) I will be entering a new tweet. When the edit field is up with the on-screen keyboard below, my finger will sometimes wander into the edit field while searching for either the "hashtag" or "at" symbol. When my finger wanders into this area, the cursor is displaced to that area with no verbal feedback as to where it has gone. Ever time I realize my finger has wandered, I have to double-tap until I get my cursor back to the end of the text edit field. Is there any way around this problem?
