Disappointing emoji search functionality

Hi all. I had suggested an emoji search podcast a few days back. Since no one has taken me up on it, I have done a little research and here's what I found. The interface is cumbersome at best. Once in the emoji keyboard, you have the search field on top of your currently used ones. I found you have to write your term, find it, double tap, go back to the keyboard and hit space for the emoji to be inserted. for me, i wish they had used pickers as I find them easier and quicker to swipe through. Maybe I expected to much out of emoji. I was hoping I could somehow say put in three emoji of a plant or whatever I searched for. This doesn't seem to be the case. I've looked online for other podcasters and the two known ones I did not find anything. Am I the only one who feels let down by the emoji search? I'd hoped for a podcast as i believed the problem was between keyboard and chair as in, me. If anyone has ideas on how to either make things easier or if I am doing something wrong, please save me from the insanity. :) Thx all.

I just go to the emoji search field and type the word birthday for example,, find the letter Q and swipe left from there. Once I find an emoji that I like, I just double tap on it. It will automatically be inserted, however voiceover won't actually say it. When I'm done double tapping, I go back to the emoji keyboard and back to my English keyboard and double tap on done. It may sound like a bit of a process and it probably is, however I'd prefer that 1 million times over what we had before.

As with the previous poster, I have no significant complaints with the emoji search. In fact, it's probably increased my use of emoji tenfold.

One down side is that the VoiceOver label doesn't always seem to match how recipients view the emoji, and as a result there have already been a few occasions when I've been asked what emoji/feeling I thought I was using. The confused face emoji is a case in point, as apparently it doesn't visually speak of confusion.

Now that I know the emoji has been put in after a double tap, I guess I can keep doing it to say put in two or three. As with the confusion emoji, never heard that but then again I don't use that much. I'm happy the search is there, I was just frustrated it wasn't more intuitive then it is I guess. I don't really know what i wanted out of the search functionality. Well still, I think a quip tip should be recorded or something. i'd offer to but I have no means to record without it sounding awful in my opinion. I enjoy podcasts which are well done, not someone holding a phone up to a mic. Thanks for the responses.

So far, I haven't run into trouble as of yet. One thing I've noticed is that when I type to an android user, their emoji's are a bit different than ours and are also pronounced a little differently. As I am typing, I can't really think of an example right now. I remember that once my brother sent my mom an emoji which she couldn't recognize, but was easily recognized by voice-over, so this probably may be a new case of emoji blindness LOL.😕

I utilize the same method as the first comment stated. Personally, I really like it. For example, I have never seen a timer emoji, but I had an instance yesterday, where I wanted to use that. I conducted a search, by inserting the word timer, in the search box, and it popped right up. I'm really glad that they have given us the search feature. Since I wanted to insert the timer clock three times, all I did is three double taps in a row. When I switched back to the message box, there were three timer clocks inserted. I do suggest always double checking the message box before sending, to ensure that you have what you want and nothing else. I learned this the hard way, long before they gave us the search feature.
