The App Store description of the latest update to YouTube includes the following:

Enabled custom accessibility actions for most of the app.

Downloaded the update but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Sounds promising. Anyone tried it out?

1. the number of elements, which results in the number of linear-nav required to interact has reduced by magnitudes
2. Elements are better associated and actions are grouped, so it's much more pleasant
3. The information architecture is comprable to YouPlayer

When I flick through videos, I still see a more actions button next to everything. I haven't noticed any use of the VoiceOver "actions" feature either

I was wondering about it myself. I got auto-updated & I seen the accessibility note. Well, of course, I jumped on it & tried hunting for it. Couldn't find it! Does anyone know how to find these settings? I'd @ least like to check them out... Thanks. I looed in the settings withing the youtube app, & the settings that you get when you click on an apf in the settings menu. Thanks in advance.

I've been playing with the latest version and I don't see what is different. It behaves just like the previous version, from what i can tell... which is perfectly usable anyhow. If someone does discover some additional accessibility goodies, do post back and let us know

hi. I don't remember exactly if this worked in the old version or not but I noticed that you can start and pause a video using a double tap with two fingers. I hope this helps.

One thing that needs fixing is that when in the subscriptions area, it is quite verbose. I'll give you an example of exactly what I hear when going through my list of subscribed videos. Fan favorites, episode 3 the fun and games channel, 112 views, the fun and games channel, button. There's no need to hear the channel name twice there. If anyone knows how to reduce the verbocity a bit, i'd be greatful.

Thanks! I'd have to b on a certain area on the screen which is not that bad if you learn where you need to hit. I just got to the comments & then swipe left. I know you can double tap the screen to start Pandora on the fly. It works off & on again & sometimes, me & my Mom have double tapped with 2 fingers. Mainly it's my Mom that does it which I laugh at.

Hello, I found that to finger double tap was working with earlier versions as well.

So, for an update that boasts increased accessibility, not only have most of us not noticed much actual improvement, but I've actually found something that got worse. In the Subscriptions tab where it lists the top several channels you visit most, VO is no longer reading the channel names -- just getting the clicking sound. It does announce the "more channels" option, and for now, that seems to be the only way to access your subscriptions. Sometimes I just have to shake my head at these app developers, lol

Hi Joe and everyone else, hope you're doing fine. I actually have a good news for all of you about this topic. To be more specific, I found out 2 good things and one bad staff which I could consider downgrade in terms of accessibility in the latest version of YouTube being 11.38. For those of you who already know about this, please take it as a refresher.First of all, the accessibility improvement I discovered in this update is the implementation of Rotor in the app. But I noticed that it's more functional in the video playback screen. Well, for those who have get use to YouTube video playback screen interface, after the airPlay button you use to find the title of the video and if you double-tab on it, the video description will be expanded and visible. Now on that same icon, you can use Rotor gesture, one-finger flick up and down to choose between options which is like button with the number of likes, dislike with the number of dislike, share and add to offline aside from the default activate option which I think does nothing. I think it make the playback screen a little cleaner even though the menus are a bit hidden. Secondly, when browsing videos no matter where you are in the app, the more options button is now accessible using Rotor instead of being located next to the right of each videos. There, of course you will get the exact same menu like not interested, share and so on when double-tab on it. For me personally, I like this Interface changes because it makes the browsing of videos a lot quicker since the video title is now placed side by side to each other that we don't have to flick twice after a video just to get pass the more options button. And last but not least, the bad thing about this update is that VO no longer announce our YouTube channel Subscriptions in the subscriptions tab. To make it to do so, I have to flick down with one-finger at the place where VO should tell us the channel name then it will announce them but it's a lot of hassel because we have to flick down all the time just because we want to know the channel name. Let me just give you an example. When you enter the subscriptions tab then start flicking from left to right, after the headings, search and more options, you will find the list of channels you have subscribe. But now VO won't read them right away to you when you reach the list. Instead, you will have to explore using Rotor. By default, you will be placed at the default action which is activate item. If you double-tab let's say on ABC channel, you will be brought into the ABC channel main page. Otherwise, if you flick down with one-finger, it will tell you the channel name which in this case is the ABC channel. It's kind of weird at least for me.
Hope this will answer your query and be beneficial to all of us. Thank you so much and have a great time ahead.

Also, in the description of the update, it states that you can send feedback to Google Accessibility and tell them about your experience. So, if the subscription issue still occurs, you can make a suggestion to Google so that they can fix it.
