Deleteing pictures from my I Pad

Hi All, I have a I Pad air running 7.1, I synced it with I tunes to import my photos that wre taken with a camera, this worked fine but when I tried to delete some of then later I couldn't. I tried to delete them in the photo app and also I photo app. The delete tab is there but it is not active but I can delete photos that I have taken with the I pad. I have to create a folder than sync the I pad to get the photos I want. I'm useing a Windows based pc. Is there an easier way to do this? Thanks John
