Dear All, Does anyone know if DAISY books can be placed and used in I Tunes and on IOS devices? A colleague who has posted a question on the UK's RNIB discussion site has asked the question. In the UK blind and partially sighted people can join the RNIB audio book DAISY library, which offers over 20,000 DAISY audio books on CD, which can be coppied to a variety of devices. These devices usually have DAISY players but I'm not sure if I Tunes can play them. I do notice and have downloaded a number of different DAISY apps but I'm not sure if I Tunes leaves them as DAISY or turns them into mp4 or some other Apple format. Steve.

The $20 Read2Go app from Bookshare will do the job, at least it should. I have Bookshare generate synthesized audio books, then download them and use the app to play them. There was a problem where the books would skip around, but the latest update seems to have fixed that problem, so far anyway. You would use iTunes to transfer them, through the list of apps capable of receiving files - there is no way to sync them over like other media. Also, note that Read2Go expects a zipped file, so zip the book before sending it over. I know there are other reading apps out there such as Daisy Worm, but I have not tried them.

Steve, the read2go app is working well now after the latest update. I also use DAISY WORM which is free. With both of these apps you will need to zip up the books before you can transfer them via ITunes.
