I updated to the latest version of Oko yesterday, and then opened the app to check its new features. When I did this, I was surprised to read that due to business reasons, Oko was no longer available in my region. I contacted the Oko team to find out why this was going on; perhaps it was a bug of some kind? When I checked my Email this morning, I received some shocking news from the team they had investigated the issue with the enginering team, and since switching to their subscription model a month ago, they had decided to mae Oko unavailable across Canada. Their reasoning: since it was not available in the state of Quebec, they did not want people paying and getting the message that Oko is not available in their region. I just want all those involved with Oko to know that this decision has stripped deafblind Canadinas of our independence and dignity.

It pays to read update info
When I read that they were switching to a subscription model, I chose not to update. I will continue to use my current version as long as it will work. We already have plenty of other apps that provide intersection info so I don't see the need to pay for something I don't need. Personally, I feel that they should have stuck with their original purpose of giving me info about the status of pedestrian signals which is not available with any other app, very helpful, and was working quite well.
Not Seeing That Message In Toronto
I have not subscribed yet, but when I go into the app I do not see that message. I'm in Toronto. My friend in Montreal does see that message. As far as I know, only Quebec is affected by this.
