I got an iPhone 16 pro with USB C connector, hoping it would be possible to directly connect a standard USB keyboard via that USB C port to enable keyboard operation of the phone without having to power the keyboard (as I gather was necessary on iPhones with lightning connector).
The question posted on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255864927?sortBy=rank has not yet generated a useful answer (but perhaps I am too impatient).
The behavior so far is that after plugging in the keyboard, a focus outline appears on the display, but cannot be moved via tab, or tab+control, or arrow keys. The focus outline then disappears after about 10-15 secs and the phone remains unresponsive to any key input. I have enabled Full Keyboard Access unter the Accessibility settings.
Is there anything to be done to make it work? Is it a bug? Or is the only option to connect a keyboard via bluetooth? (BTW the same keyboard works fine when plugged into my iPad).

Two things come to mind:
First, the iPhone may just be designed not to support such things, it used to be that certain things would work on iPad but not on iPhone. The second thing that comes to mind is a power issue, if you have a usb-c hub with a power adapter, try using it.
