Can't sync playlists to iPhone in latest iOS and iTunes Update

OK, here's the deal:

With the latest update to both iOS on my iPhone and to iTunes, I can no longer sync new songs I add to my playlists to my iPhone. My old songs are still there, but, when I try to add a new song to a playlist, it doesn't appear on my device. However, when I look at my device on iTunes, it shows up as on my device. The new songs just don't show up in the Music app on my actual device.

So, for example, if I add a song, for the sake of argument here, called "X" to a playlist via iTunes, then sync my phone, the song DOES appear on my "all songs" list on my phone but it doesn't appear in the palylist I added it to on my phone. However, if I go into iTunes, click on my iPhone there, and then,, go to my playlists under my iPhone in iTunes, song "X" does show up there. So, the song is appearing on my computer in iTunes. In other words, iTunes is showing it like it IS, in fact, on my device, but, when I go to my physical device and check the playlist on it, song "X" doesn't appear!

Could someone please help me fix this?!?!?!?! I've tried everything I know how to try!!! I've tried un-syncing and re-syncying my songs which worked at first, but, then, when I tried adding a new song to a playlist after that, it didn't work again and was doing the same thing! I've tried other things, too, but it's too hard to explain here.

Please help me! I am not a very skilled technical person, but please try to guide me in laymen's terms step-by-step as to how to fix this!

Thanks!!

Hi Misty. I am not sure how to fix your problem at all, but I am having a similar problem and hope someone has the knowledge to tell me also how to fix it. Since the latest upgrade of IOS and especially ITunes, I have noticed that although all 32 of my albums show up on my IPhone 5 in the music part, when I try to play any on ITunes, with my phone plugged into my computer, only 16 of the albums show up. Strangely they are the 16 albums I have bought through ITunes. I have looked in the ITunes library, and all my albums are there, they just wont show up in ITunes when my phone is plugged in. can anyone advise on how to get all the albums showing again? I have unchecked the checkbox for show most current, or something like htat, but don't know what else to do?

Hi all. I have the same problem. I have about 16 playlists on my mac, however when I plug my iPhone into my mac to sync it, only about four playlist sync. Curiously enough, I still have about 4 GB left on my phone. Also, another problem that I am having, is that when I ask Siri to play a particular artist shuffled, it always says that that artist is not in my music library, however when I go to check, it is there. This is just a guess, however I think these problems have to do something with Apple music. I have no idea how to fix this. If someone does know, please help me out.

I also noticed this as well. The way I got around it was by starting over. I arased all the music on my phone and synced everything from the beginning. However, I got duplicates of my playlist when I did that but those are easy to get rid of.

How do you delete all the music from your phone? Does it have to be manually or it's from your computer?

By Misty Dawn on Saturday, September 26, 2015 - 00:38

I, too, got rid of all my music on my phone and re-added it. Thing is, it seem that, right now, I have to do this every time I add a new song to a playlist or it won't add it on my phone.

To do what we are doing:

1) Plug your phone into your computer.

2) If iTunes doesn't start automatically, start it.

3) Go to your iPhone in your "Devices" list.

4) Then, go under "Settings" and click "Music".

5) You should now have something up that says "Sync Music" at the top. Uncheck that "Sync Music" option.

6) Then, hit "Apply". All of your music will be deleted from your phone (but NOT from iTunes on your computer).

7) Now, re-check "Sync Music" in this same area.

8) Hit "Apply" or "Sync", whichever shows up. All of your music will now begin re-syncing (being added again to) your phone. Once that process is completed, all of your music, including things you've previously added to playlists, should show up on your phone.

This has seemed to work for most people I've talked to about this so far.

As I have almost 1,000 songs, this process can take some time to complete, so I hope this issue gets fixed SOON!! I really don't want to do this every time I add a new song to a playlist!

Also, if anyone else has a quicker/more permanent solution to this, please let us all know! There have apparently been a TON of syncing issues people have encountered like this and others since the latest updates to iOS / iTunes.

Hi Misty and all on this specific post
As everyone use difference screen reading, magnifier,iTunes for Mac or windows, subscribe to apple Music or not subscribe.
to users who are not subscribe at apple Music:
seens as you are having the same issue as previous iTunes version 11 oor something around, the music {playlist} are checked under iTunes library but doesn't appear on your iOS device even after the complete process the only solution who found to this issue and is not even workaround is restoring your iOS device and take last backUp and all the music selected will be sync to your device.
Remember before start the process do not forget do backUp.
May is the best answer that I could give cause restoring the device looks be hard to many people but sorry folks is the only solution that work for me.
okay for users who are subscribed to apple music read the suggestions on the following link

This is probably a ridiculous question. However, when you say restore iPhone, do you mean the erasing the whole iPhone and restoring it? Or just backing it up and restoring it with out erasing it?

By MarkSarch on Saturday, September 26, 2015 - 00:38

Hi Igna
No, it is not a ridiculous question!
I will be brief and clear
Talking about iTunes for Mac or windows doesn't matter the operator system
there a option shows as
Restore
Technically means erase
If you do the process Manually directly on your iPhone will show as
Erase all content and settings
Settings//general//reset//erase all content and settings
backing to restore from iTunes this process could take a wile all depend of
internet speed in case iTunes has to download the iOS file around 1.8Gb, if you update the device using iTunes you will save time cause the iOS file will be already save on it only apply to devices updated over the air means updating from your device using only wifi
Settings//general//software update
when this process has completed
will be 2 options
First one
set as new Phone
The device will be as factory settings, no data none information about it be aware of this option
Second one
restore from iTunes backUp
from this option will show a list of backups for date and time starting from the top more recents pick up one of those backups and all your settings and data will be transferring to your device
it could take around 1 hour or less
per example on my devices I use both systems
Windows OS restoring around 40Gb of data specs: 2.5Ghz I5 it could take about 80 minutes
Mac OS same 40Gb of data Specs 2.8Ghz I5 it takes only around 45 minutes.
NOTE:
you can erase your device manually and just plug the device via lightning cable to Mac or windows and restore the information from backUp.

Simply erasing and loading all the songs and playlists sounds a whole lot faster.

iOS 9 is due to be released in a week or so. Perhaps this will fix many of our woes, with regard to the Apple Music app. I would hate to see you do a complete wipe of your phone if it's not necessary. In my view, and based on how my phone looks, this is quite radical, especially if most of your phone's data is consumed by music and libraries such as BARD, Audible, and Kindle. I would encourage you to try to hold off on doing a complete wipe of the phone until after iOS 9 is released.

I, too, have been having many issues in syncing the phone, but, according to what I have been reading, iOS 9 just might fix all of this. I can't point to any one article, but iOS9 looks as if it is going to be a big one. I, for one, am definitely going to wait.

By Igna Triay on Saturday, September 26, 2015 - 00:38

Thanks for your replies I am already finished with the problem. Anyway I can't wait for iOS 9

Wondering ifthis isn't all some sneaky tactic to get everyone to subscribe to Apple Music? I do hope not.

At any rate, does restoring the whole iPhone *permanently* fix the problem? In other words, after I do this, would this, every time I add another song to another playlist, always make the iPhone sync properly to the dvice?

Now, when I just unsync/sync music, I have to do that every time I add a new song to a playlist.

I am trapped in the similar problem and hope answers above can help me figure out the problem. Thanks in advance.

I got exactly the same problem. It won't sync all my songs in the play lists.

The solution I found was to turn off the iCloud Library under settings, music on my phone. Be warned, when you do this, it will erase any Apple Music songs you have downloaded. After you do this, plug your iPhone in to your computer, load up iTunes, make sure your iPhone is selected, choose music, then make sure that the sync all songs option is checked. Then, do a sync. This worked for me. Again, as a warning, this will remove any Apple Music songs you have downloaded.

I love my iphone and ipad but I hate iTunes and cannot understand why there have not been more complaints such that Apple had to redesign it. ITunes is the worst piece of software I have ever encountered and I am fed up with wasting time AGAIN on trying to solve problems. First I find notes are no longer sync and then I am having the same issue as above whereby my playlists are not being updated.
I decided to delete the playlist from my phone and then synced hoping that the playlist from my PC would sync properly with my iphone but OH NO.... the playlist has been deleted from my PC. Unbelievable. Totally totally fed up.

I am in full agreement regarding the crap called iTunes! Apparently, Apple is the richest company in the world! However, they must have lost all their fine programmers to Google! Make no mistake, the iPhone is King for blind users! I have a high-end android phone and while talkback is closing the gap, it's still not voiceover! One thing I will give android top dog over iOS; I can copy my music, my audiobooks, from my computer directly to a storage folder of my choosing on my android device! Just like good old windows and the Victor reader stream etc. Moreover, some android devices support micro SD memory card's. Awesome for massive amounts of data! At this point in my ecosystem, my iPhone 6s is still my daily driver but, My android device is now strictly for music and audio consumption! In closing, regarding this thread, I lost an entire playlist of 250 chairs tunes to this iTunes and iOS bug! That's what prompted me to try and write! Good luck to all, and to all a good night! Cheers… Rocker 77

I like iTunes even though it is developing problems lately. Without iTunes IOS devices would be less appealing to me. I use several devices, and ITunes is the best way to keep them all organized. I believe the current problems are related to ICloud, and Apple music. Apple Music should be a separate app, not part of ITunes. As for ICloud, one should not be forced into it, as Apple is trying to do. I keep my IOS devices backed up on my computer, and my computer is backed up with time machine. Ihave no use for iCloud. I would never want to see iTunes go away, but I wish Apple would do some quality assurance testing of software before releasing it.

I just updated to iTunes version 12.4.1.6. I am using an iPhone 6 connected to my MacBook Pro.

A few weeks ago I tried to sync things and iTunes ate an entire playlist off my phone. I was able to re-create it on my laptop, but it wouldn't sync to my phone. I was playing around with this tonight and here's what I figured out.

1. Go to My Music > Songs.

2. Find a song that hasn't synched to your phone and click on it. You can use CTRL or CMD + click to select several songs.

3. Right-click on one of the songs you've selected. When the menu appears, click on Add to Device > iPhone. When I did this, it added the song to my Purchased list on my phone.

4. Find the song on your phone and add it to the correct playlist.

Hope this helps!
