Bug with the latest version of Facebook Messenger

Messenger was updated today, and I've noticed a bug. When I type a message, and am looking for the send button, old messages will get read out even if I am on the Keyboard. For example, I could hear a keyboard click saying that I am entering a letter in. However, VoiceOver will be reading a message and will not tell me that I am pressing a letter. Has anyone else had this issue?

Hi,
Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about.
This bug also presents itself, if you scroll to try to find a particular message.
Another thing I've noticed, is that my recent conversations are now barried. They used to be right at the top. How can I fix this?

I updated Messenger about 3 days ago and immediately had this problem.

I've run across that bug over the last few versions of Messenger, especially in group chats, even more especially in extremely active group chats. Unfortunately, I don't know of a workaround for that bug, apart from continuing to type, and using a bluetooth keyboard to send the message via its enter key.

and it works, temporarily. Turning Voiceover off and then on seems to work until you send your next message. Prior to that, I was feeling around the screen until the keyboard would show up, and that always took a long time.

Hi. I've experienced this after typing a message where VO reads old messages continuously. I close and reopen messenger and go about my business.

Yes I have also experienced this issue as well, as somebody has already said, if you turn off VoiceOver and switch it back on, it sort of sorts it out temporarily. i’ve also noticed that when you like someone’s message on messenger, it doesn’t tell you anymore you have liked it I will try and using different emoticons but the problem is still the same. Hope they do sort these rather annoying bugs out.

I've had that bug for awhile on my iPod but not on my phone. My iPod is a 7. Thank you for the work-around! I will definitely try that.

I have part of that problem. I can type and send messages with no problem but to find the button to get out of the conversation I have to close out the app and then reopen it if I want to go in another chat.

It's definitely not easy to find the back button. It's in the same place, but Voiceover can't seem to stop reading random messages long enough to verbalize when we try to double-tap it.

when voiceover starts reading old messages, put your finger at the top of the screen, this will stop speech. At that point, the back button will be seen by voiceover and than you can go about it
I have an i phone se 2020 if that makes a diference

I thought I was going mad. Didn’t even come on this website to find out about this, but came across it. Just updated to iOS 16 the other day and whatever the latest Messenger is. I do have to go out of Messenger and then back into it again. It is extremely frustrating. For people who are socially isolated, messenger can be a game changer. But it’s going to be a very frustrating game changer for the foreseeable future I think.

This is the same problem with me. I usually turn speech off with a three finger double tap then turn it back on that seems to help but since it's the main means of communication between me and most of my friends it's a real problem. I didn't have this issue until the beginning of last week. really annoying. hope they fix it really soon then don't touch it again lol.

Thanks for the tips and the work-around for this issue. I thought this might have been a bug because I didn't have this issue until sometime last week. My mom doesn't text... she only sends messages through messenger so when I started having issues with reading messages after either me sending one to her or vice versa I couldn't figure out what was going on. But at least now I know it's a bug and I will do the tips that have been suggested. Thanks so much.

For me, using a Bluetooth keyboard doesn't avoid the issue. Even if I patiently allow VoiceOver to read all the messages, I encounter another issue: flicking right will not move VoiceOver focus past the last message, which means the only way to find the message entry text field is to drag my finger across the screen.

The only workaround appears to be to toggle VoiceOver off and back on.
