British voice quality.

I have used Siri British Mail because it still sounds good.
I don't know what happened to the voices lately. The more I updated, the worse it got with Daniel, then Cate.
I had to change the region to UK for it to read the dates correctly, but in the British format.
Now I just stuck with Eloquence, Eddy, American English and so I changed my region back to US.

Are use a number of different voices.
I’ve used Siri voices both American and UK.
I use other language voices.
I basically have every version of English in my rotor.
And everyone seems to have some issues with the sound quality pronunciation or some of them sound like the static
And this has been getting worse over the years I notice it to three years ago the voices were much better.
Seems like the better technology gets the worst the voices are getting.

I've talked to an Apple enginere, a supervisor and they have all but confirmed, they do not have anyone working with a disability at all under them. That means: Apple's Joe Q sighted tester, test it. He or she turns on Voice over, does five minutes of testing, says, all good, then they release it. Are you so jaded that you can't understand that apple had to back pedal when the wheelchair users needed them to realize, umm, most of us don't stand? I don't hate apple either, their practices leave a hell of a lot to be desired.

I like it but do prefer alix.

I've tried the jamie voice and think it's ok but prefer alex.

it won't be fixed in IOS 16.
and we hope it will get better in IOS 17

The first point i want to make is one that really annoys me: what Apple and most users of this site refer to as British voices are English voices. That is to say, they are voices with accents one would find in england. Siri male and female are middle-class home counties types, for example. There is no such thing as a British accent or a UK english accent (the United Kingdom is composed either of four nations or, to be more historically accurate, of two countries, a principality and a province). i personally prefer the four nations idea - I am English and have Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish friends. it is incredibly irksome when folk use British and English as though they are interchangeable, synonymous terms.

So, why does this all matter? The answer is that if you look on the languages that Apple offers us you will see an english (Scotland) offering. That is another form of UK English. The welsh are forgotten entirely, as are the Northern Irish, and that's rather poor and insensitive localisation there. Nevertheless I have no objection to its being labelled English Scotland, provided we stop disenfranchising the English and refer to Daniel, Jamie, Oliver and the Siri brother and sister as English England, for that is what they are; St George for England, and St Pancras for Scotland.

Now, to the voice quality, I think Siri English female and male do fairly well. jamie has some eccentricities with which I can't cope, Daniel hasn't changed since the early noughties and I haven't tried Oliver, Kate, Serena and so on. I use so-called British English Eloquence on my computer (should actually be called English England or something like that. it's great on the laptop but not so good on the phone - not yet, anyway. I would love an English equivalent of Alex, or even a Scottish or Welsh equivalent.

Interestingly, using English Eloquence (rather than american English Eloquence) the dates wree differentiated; but not last night when reading your comment using the UK Siri female. I agree with you that more diversity would be good, particularly in areas of political sensitivity. Why should there not be a Welsh voice for people from wales to use - and by that, I mean a Welsh English voice rather than Welsh language localisation (although there should be that too if there isn't)?

To be scrupulously fair, I do think it is worth adding that other languages seem to have even more of a rotten time. There's nothing for NZ english, nothing for any of the Caribbean islands, and that's before we get to languages other than English which often have to put up with pretty poor support as we frequently read on here. That's why when I read about 20 new US voices I have to question priorities - there are other languages and dialects that are way behind and need levelling up.

It would be nice if apple added more english speaking voices.

They might in the future but i'd honestly not hold my breath, a strange way of saying I'd not get my hopes up.

Witness Cereproc who are Scottish and proclaim their Scottishness all over their website. Their celebrity voices? Obama and Trump? How could they disown their own in such a way? No David Tenant? Gordon Brown? Ewan McGregor? No Boris Johnson? stephen Fry? Joanna Lumley? No Catherine Jenkins? No...hang on...one nation to go....no Martin O'Neil?
