Hello, I am wondering if there are any guides or tutorials to help with blind people using the camera. I got the talking goggles app and also have vizwhiz and digiteyes and I find the problem is how do I know where to point the camera or how to position it or whether the lighting is any good. I listened to the podcast for talking goggles for example and it worked very well for the presenter but try it myself, not much luck. It is the same thing with AnonyMouse and digiteyes. I am not sure if there are any tips and tricks. I appreciate any help. Sorry it is so long winded. Thanks very much, Jesse

A few helpful ideas.
Hi Jessie. first, look at a book called get the picture, viewing the world with the iPhone camera, by Judy Dixon. It's available from www.nbp.org for I think 20 bucks. Second, look into getting a standscan. It's pieces of cardboard with magnets, you assemble them into a box, with no front, and put your phone on top of it. The pro model has little lights glued inside and pluged in or using a battery, it willhelp you scan much better. also read www.get-the-picture.org the folowup to the book, the author keeps reviewing things. which is a third-party app similar to The vOICe for Android and Windows.

Hi Allseed. While it's certainly true no one has to put money down on something, i suggested this book because it's a complete guide to exactly what each mode of the camera is, what it does, as well as explains essentially why a blind person would want to take a photograph. Along with that,t here's apps, some free some paid, suggestions for the stand scan, why you should use it, how it will help deposit checks, find barcodes, etc. i also sent people to her blog, so as to get an idea of what it's about before you put the hard earned money down. www.get-the-picture.org Check it out, in case it's actually valuable to you. :) hope you understand a bit better why I suggested it.

The website that is linked to here for that book is unavailable, but this book nevertheless sounds like a good one to get. I have been playing around with both the Camera and Photos apps on my iPhone 7. They seem to work great with VoiceOver, and I managed to snap some photos. I even got VoiceOver to describe a selfie which I took, or at least I'm pretty sure that's what was being described. But I too, am rather confused. I know my brother uses these 2 apps all the time on his iPhone, and he's also a VoiceOver user. Looks pretty intriguing though, pun literally intended.
