Be Careful with the Latest Youtube Update

Today I updated to the latest version of the YouTube app, Version 15.33.4. However, when I opened the app, all Voiceover speech immediately switched to the earpiece. I tried closing it from the app switcher and reopening, and it did the exact same thing. When I clicked on a video, it switched back to normal, but this is something to be aware of if you use YouTube a lot.

Hey. Don't have that problem here. But still something people should look out for. I'm on an 11.

I have seen this issue posted elsewhere. I haven't had a chance to see if I'm affected by this, but I use headphones most of the time. One thing to try is changing the audio destination on VO and see if that fixes the issue.

Turn voice-over off, then back on. Hope they fix it. Xs Max here.

I too have seen this issue. I've turned Voiceover off and back on, and that fixed the issue while in the app. However, it seems that we have to do this each time we open the app. Very inconvenient.

I am seeing this also. One thing mentioned on other forums is to check and not allow microphone access to Youtube apparently sighted folks are seeing that the app is recording for voice.

For me, it does it when first launching the app.

I exit to the home screen, then back to the app and it resolves itself, this is on an iPhone 6S running 13.6.1.

I am also having this issue. After I updated it asked me for microphone access which I granted and that is when the problem seemed to start happening. I think I will go into settings and revoke mic access and see if that makes a difference as mentioned above. In my opinion Youtube shouldn't really be asking for mic access unless/until I tell it to start recording a video.

Just go home without fully closing the app, wait for the sound to come back, then open it up again. Again, do not fully closee the app with the app switcher. Simply return to the home screen

When using AirPods Pro and my iPad Air 2 (haven't needed to try on my iPhone yet), I also encounter this peculiar issue. When I first launch the YouTube app on my iPad, sound switches from my AirPods to my iPad's built-in speakers. Going home and back into the app resolves this, but it's still very strange. I don't think I granted microphone access.

I'm also experiencing this problem on my 7+. The only way I can get YouTube to work normally is to hold the phone to my ear, play a video, and that's when it goes back to normal, as long as I don't close the app, but if I do, I have to do the process over again

I just noticed these problems this evening.
I've noticed higher battery drain than usual, and the app has even been killed several times for high CPU usage.
Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Hi
My YouTube just got updated this morning and i’m also having the same issue
I couldn’t fix it

By chris R on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 - 23:36

I am still having the earpiece issue and it seems to be getting harder and harder to work around it now for some reason. Sometimes. restarting voice-over and going to the home screen does not work.
A few more annoying things i've noticed:
The Time feedback on the track position control is a bit clunky still since it was fixed again last month. Also I noticed that the collapse player button is no longer a swipe right from the video player heading, now it's a swipe Left which means a new muscle memory to learn. I find using explore by touch to find it is difficult since it is a small button.
Regarding the app being automatically closed for high cpu: i've seen this happen for years and it's annoying but I just have to deal with it. Happens with a lot of other apps as well.
I'm using iPhone 8.

I found a workaround
use headphones.
I just did it and it worked for me :) the finally I could use YouTube without getting pissed off! and I sent feedback using the 'send feedback feature' on the app.

First open youtube, then open the control center, slide to the audio line option to enter, select the speaker. Everything is back to normal. As long as you don't choose to restart the iPhone, this operation is effective.

I’m having the same problem here with an iPhone 8 and iPad Mini 5, both on 13.6.1 .
Thank you all for suggesting workarounds, I’ll have a play and see if I can get it to behave. I use Bluetooth headphones all the time because I can’t concentrate on my content without them, so going without these is not an option, and neither is going to wired headphones, as I am extremely likely to pull my iPad off the surface it’s on and have it hit the deck.
Thanks again for all the suggestions. I posted on Facebook before coming here so now I know about this issue I can update people and let them know to be careful.

Is there supposed to be a new update for the YouTube app today?, I did not receive that new update.

Hello,
this is normal, we all get updates at different times by Appstore.
However, there is a way to manually get all available updates.
Open the appstore updates page, and swipe down with 3 fingers. Voiceover should say refreshing content, and you should see all available updates.
