So is there a switch a client that I can use that will allow me to use the same Twitter ID and will actually give me the freedom to send direct messages to people

don't use twitter or you will be in bad situation.
there are no 3rd party twitter apps anymore, musk killed em all, and is going to destroy the accessibility.
use mastodon.

Calckey (a fork of Misskey) is becoming more and more accessible these days. The server I'm on when it comes to Calckey, is

NB. Although there is currently not an accessible IOS client that I know of, the web site does have the standard style of keyboard shortcuts. E.G, J/k, command+Enter, N for a new post, etc. The Calckey instance I'm on has an 8000 character limit.
For Android users, check out MilkTea in the play store.
Currently, Mona does not work with Calckey, even though Calckey does support Mastodon functionality. Hopefully Mona can support Calckey instances down the line sometime.
