Are there accessible alternatives to the iOS Mail app?

Yes. I live in the UK but I guess you can also get access to the gmail app wherever you are in the world?
I have set-up gmail to work in the standard IOS mail platform but I also have the gmail app. I have found the app to be quite accessible and use it most of the time. Give it a try.

There is also Voicedream mail, an app that will read your emails out loud. Hope this helps.

I have also heard great things about the iOS version of Outlook, but haven't tried it personally.
