Anyone have a fix for the BARD mobile sleep timer bug?

Dear AppleVis users,
Lately I have been having a problem with BARD Mobile involving the sleep timer.
I listen to books sometimes to fall asleep, and usually set the sleep timer for 45-60 minutes. After the latest update, when I wake up the next morning and turn on my iPad, I notice something odd about the lockscreen: the lockscreen miniplayer is still there, and the Play/Pause control is labeled "Pause" thereby implying that the book is still playing, yet no sound comes out. Also every now and again the track position slider will be at the position that I can only guess is what it would've been if I had it on all night, but is definitely not where it's supposed to be if it had stopped the night before, but this isn't always the case. The pause control won't move / change if I doubletap it, and twofinger magic tap doesn't do anything either.
I unlock the iPad and find the the play/stop on the Bard player is also acting as if the book is playing, being labeled "Stop". Again, doubletapping the stop button or doing the magic tap doesn't work. The only way I can get it back to normal is by closing BARD via the appswitcher.
I emailed the devs about this and they said that it was a known bug, and they were working on a fix but didn't know when it would be out.
So, onto my question: While I / we wait until this bug gets fixed, have any of you found a workaround / a way to get the sleeptimer to work normally or semi-normally in the meantime? Thank you for any help you can provide!

Hope to see app update soon to fix this issue. In the meantime, I tap the Sleep Timer button again, then tap the Stop button which changes it to "Play". Then I tap the "Play" button and things return to normal. Occasionally when I've encountered the problem and tap the Sleep Timer button again, the volume comes on extremely loud. I usually double tap quickly to stop the painfully loud voice and then proceed as previously described.

Thank you Greg for this solution! Sorry about the volume thing. Since I usually use my iPad for this I have a older ipad and have memorized the Bard player, I could stick in my wired headphones quickly before I do it. Still, they're working on a fix and let's hope it comes out soon so that none of us will have to deal with this. Thanks again!

I'm not an iPad user so have never had this particular issue, but I have a related question. I might've already found at least a solution for me, but here goes. I, too, like to fall asleep/wake up to a good book or magazine using BARD Mobile on my iPhone Seven. However, sometimes when I set the sleep timer and the portion of the magazine or book finishes, the sleep timer is right back where I started when I next open the app. Ironically enough, the fix I found for this was getting an upstairs neighbor his own wi-fi. Or to put this more accurately, the problem seems to have gone away since this neighbor got his own wi-fi. We were sharing the connection due to the cost involved. So I guess I'm wondering if anybody else has had this issue? I'm curious to see if it'll come back once I upgrade to another iPhone.

What do you mean by "Right back where it started"?

By that I mean when I set the timer for 15 minutes or so, exit the app once time is up, and then when I open the app next time the timer went back to where it was before I set it. But hopefully this is no longer an issue.

I’ve never used the sleep timer, usually walking around the house or backyard while listening.

However word around the campfire is BARD mobile has some big updates coming. They don’t say exactly what but a couple weeks ago they were down for about 24 hours doing background work to get ready for what is coming. I think they may have changed their servers as BARD seems faster to me. I’m really hoping for cloud sync. Perhaps they will have a better sleep timer and some other nice features.
