I want to be able to make videos and movies with iMovie using stop animation techniques. I will be using my iPad and I also need help with finding a tripod and a remote way to control the camera.
I don't know of any specific apps that would be all-inclusive and accessible for stop-motion, as I don't think Dragon is accessible, but provided you have your lighting and tripod set up, if you had an AppleWatch, you'd be able to make your phone or iPad fire off pictures remotely. You can also invoke Siri to take a picture for you or use Voice Control once you have your shot dialed in.
You'll have to be extra careful about taking care of any mistakes while you build your image sequence. I don't think iMovie handles image sequences, but Final Cut Pro should be able to import image sequences as video clips, provided you give it the correct import settings, so frame size, 24 fps frame rate, etc. Now if you are talking about controlling a moving tripod/armature for moving a camera through a scene, that's a whole other complicated ballgame involving building an articulated armature and having it sync with what you are trying to do in the timespan of your shot. If you have an articulated tripod, you could move your character and the camera at the same time, but keeping track of the independent movements would be a nightmare without good practice, planning, or a rig that would act as a stepped set of places for the camera to land for each shot to emulate camera movement.
From a practical standpoint, an iPad wouldn’t be my first choice for a tripod mounted camera because it’s big and heavy, relative to an iPhone, and unlike the iPhone, contrary to what’s said above, the Apple Watch won’t control it. Plus, I haven’t heard of a tripod mount for an iPad, but even if one did exist, I feel like it’s an accident waiting to happen.
On the software side of things, I’m not sure such a thing would exist, considering the resistance some developers have to even making audio software accessible. This is something I could consider creating in the future, but considering my struggle to create accessible 2D drawing software for myself, and my lack of experience in video editing software and stop motion, I don’t think I could do it.
